Pet Friendly Carson National Forest
Carson National Forest Carson National Forest is a pet-friendly public area in Taos, NM. Some of the finest mountain scenery in the Southwest is found in this 1.5 million acre forest. Elevations rise from 6,000 feet to 13,161 feet at Wheeler Peak, the highest in New Mexico, also found within the park. Leashed dogs are allowed on the trails, as long as all mess is cleaned up after them. See Details
Pet Friendly Ice Cave & Bandera Volcano
Ice Cave & Bandera Volcano Visit the Land of Fire and Ice at the Ice Cave & Bandera Volcano in Grants, NM. This dog-friendly trail follows an ancient lava trail amidst old-growth trees to an ice cave. The cool air inside the cave is a welcome respite after the hike. The trail is wide and paved and about 1.5-miles long. Be prepared for a 150-foot elevation gain as you ascend. The trail returns to the Trading Post., but someone will need to wait with Fido because only service dogs are allowed inside the store. See Details
Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area is a dog-friendly outdoor activity in Bloomfield, NM. Fido can tag along as you tour this beautiful landscape filled with geological masterpieces. These badlands are famous for fossils, petrified wood and hoodoos. Please note that there is no water source in the area, so be sure to bring a water bottle for you and Fido. See Details
Cerrillos Hills State Park Cerrillos Hills State Park is a dog-friendly recreation area in Santa Fe, NM. Bring Fido off the beaten path to one of the five miles of hiking trails with loops and expansive views. There are also several areas and tables for a picnic with your pup! Clayton Dinosaur Trackway Clayton Dinosaur Trackway is a dog-friendly path located inside Clayton Lake State Park in Clayton, NM. Fido is welcome to join as you follow in the steps of prehistoric creatures, but dogs must remain on a leash. This 1.4 mile trek showcases footprints left from four different species of dinosaurs. El Malpais Visitor Center Trail El Malpais Visitor Center Trail is a dog-friendly hiking trail located at the El Malpais National Monument in Grants, NM. The National Park Service lists it as one of its "paw-friendly" trails. Leashed dogs will enjoy this 0.7-mile trail that affords excellent views of the sandstone bluffs. Be sure that Fido is leashed, because the path directs you to steep cliffs. See Details
Sumner Lake State Park Sumner Lake State Park is a dog-friendly outdoor recreation area in Lake Sumner, NM. Leashed dogs are welcome to join you on the hiking trails. The Discovery Trail begins at the visitor center and ends at an overlook in the direction of Sumner Dam. The 1.7-mile Fox Run Trail meanders near the shore of the lake. See Details
Sandia Crest Trail No. 130S Bring Fido for a walk on the Sandia Crest Trail No. 130S in Albuquerque, NM. This is a great hike located on the backside of the Sandia Mountains. It's a short 15-30 minute drive from the beautiful city of Albuquerque. This trail is a beginner/intermediate level hike (some steep hills) and dog friendly! The whole hike leads to the Sandia Crest, or spend a few hours looking for fossils. It's a great way to spend the morning, afternoon, or day with the people and puppies you love most. Ned Houk Memorial Park Ned Houk Memorial Park is a family and pet-friendly recreation spot in Clovis, NM. The 3,200-acre space includes sports fields & courts, a race track, a disc golf course, three lakes, and hiking trails. Chaco Culture National Historical Park Chaco Culture National Historical Park is a pet-friendly recreation area in Nageezi, NM. Take Fido hiking and camping in this area once home to ancestral Puebloans. Pets are allowed on the following trails: Penasco Blanco, Pueblo Alto, Wijiji, and South Mesa trails. Pets are not allowed in archaeological sites at any time. Dogs must remain on a leash of no more than six feet at all times. See Details
Highland Park Highland Park is a pet-friendly spot in Albuquerque, NM. This nice little hidden park is a great place to take your pooch on a stroll. After a nice walk, pause for a moment for a picnic at one of the benches provided. Dogs are welcome, as long as they are leashed and all mess is cleaned up after them. The park is open daily. Ghost Ranch Ghost Ranch is pet-friendly. Formerly owned by Georgia O’Keeffe, Ghost Ranch gives you the opportunity to explore 21,000 acres of New Mexico backcountry. Leashed dogs are welcome to join you on nine hiking trails throughout the property and are welcome in the visitor’s center. There’s a $3 per person fee to use the trails to maintain them. Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area is a pet-friendly spot in Red River, NM. Bring your pooch and enjoy the trails; ideal for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, wildflower viewing and bird watching. Enchanted Forest offers 33 km of 12 through 16 ft. wide groomed, signed, and patrolled trails for both classic and freestyle skiing. You'll also find 15km devoted to snowshoes as well as 5km of trails to ski with your dog. See Details
