Battle of New Orleans at Andrew Jackson's Hermitage Each January 8th, Hermitage welcomes visitors free of charge to honor the Battle of New Orleans, the decisive 1815 victory that elevated Andrew Jackson to national fame. The day includes a wreath-laying ceremony at Jackson’s tomb, a keynote address, and access to the estate’s 1,120 acres of history. Leashed dogs are welcome to roam the historic grounds.
