NEW LISTING! History buffs and antique collectors will LOVE their retreat here as each guest is an active part of the retreat property owner’s historic restoration project of love – be sure to sign the guest book :) Cottage 1901 offers guests a peaceful retreat in a neighborhood setting, centrally located amid Historic Downtown Fort Payne.
Step back in time and retreat in this small cottage that was built for an entire family back in 1901. It remains even as Downtown Fort Payne has grown all around it over the past 120+ years.
Once on the front porch, you will love the two rocking chairs which are perfect for resting after a full day of antiquing or hiking the nearby preserve. There are 15 hydrangeas in front of the cottage, and look closely as you might also spy some organic rosemary, oregano, lemon balm, sage, and mint in the garden. As guests, you are welcome to clip and enjoy some in your favorite recipe.
Inside the front door is a cozy living room, thoughtfully decorated with the owner’s favorite antiques and vintage finds. Enjoy viewing the photos on the wall, spotlighting Fort Payne’s local history. There is a 40” Roku TV and WiFi so that you can stream your own favorite programming.
Moving into the kitchen, you will find it well-equipped with dishes, utensils, pans, microwave, drip coffee maker, electric water kettle, blender, toaster, and cooking spices.
A washer and dryer are located in an open nook beside the kitchen and are available for guests to use at their convenience.
There is a gas BBQ grill right outside, as you exit the laundry nook into the back yard. There is also a picnic table for guests who want to enjoy outdoor dining during their retreat.
Entering the bedroom from the living room, you will discover more antiques and vintage finds, as well as a comfortable king-size bed. There is an antimicrobial encasement on the mattress, and the bed is adorned with beautiful, soft bedding. Two plush robes hang on an antique wall fixture for guests, and there are extra quilts in the antique dresser. And though Cottage 1901 is ideal for 2 retreat guests, the guest closet contains 2 twin air mattresses, an air pump, and bedding - available for up to two additional registered guests.
A personal favorite for many of our guests is a reading nook directly beside the bedroom with two antique chairs and an antique rolling butler cart. Lift the sides of the cart to make a small table, and it becomes perfect for enjoying coffee and tea, dining and puzzle building.
Through the bedroom, there is a full bathroom with a shower, toilet and a beautiful sink vanity made from a beautiful antique dresser. Again, if you love antiques and DIY or happen to be a fan of “out with the new and in with the old again, you are an ideal guest to retreat in Cottage 1901 :)
