The Hydeaway
Located just minutes away from world class white water rafting, mountain biking, hiking, skiing and more is your own private refuge in the Great Smoky Mountains. The Hydeaway lies between Bryson City and Robbinsville, North Carolina just off of Hwy 28 on the way to Fontana Dam, Deals Gap, the Tail of the Dragon and beyond. Enjoy beautiful misty morning views of the the Smokies, or watch the sunset from the privacy of your private wooden deck.
Our mountaintop location is just a few miles from Fontana Dam, just up the mountain on a gravel road. Our home is nestled high up on the side of the mountain in a quaint community known as The Pines and is surrounded by large trees and heavily wooded land. With only one other cabin down our road, our home is private and quiet.
Located in between Bryson City and Robbinsville, you have your choice of grocery stores, shops and restaurants. Robbinsville is only a 20 minute drive into town and offers quaint shops, restaurants, gas and groceries. Robbinsville is located within Graham County which is a "dry county" meaning no alcohol is sold within the county line with the exception of some resorts. Bryson City is only 30 minutes away and is home to kayakers, hikers, fly fishermen, mountain bikers, outdoor enthusiasts and friendly locals alike. There are many great locally-owned shops, bars, restaurants and of course the famous Great Smoky Mountain Railroad where you can board an authentic, recently restored steam engine for day sightseeing trips or special themed night time rides. From the Hydeaway, you are just a couple of hours drive to scenic tourist destinations like the Alpine Village of Helen, GA, the world famous Builtmore Estate in Asheville, or maybe a college football game at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. There are so many options, but our favorite might just be relaxing the day away breathing in the fresh mountain air with no place to be, no voicemails to check and no emails to respond to.
At night, you can try your luck at the newly renovated Harrah's Cherokee Casino in Cherokee or maybe check out the brand new Harrah's Casino in Murphy. There are also many small, craft breweries close by, many featuring tap rooms, great local food and live entertainment.
The Hydeaway is centrally located to some of our area's most popular attractions including: Nantahala Outdoor Center which offers white water rafting, kayaking and zip lining; Fontana Lake which is a wonderful lake for boating, skiing, fishing, paddelboarding and swimming; TheGreat Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) with literally thousands of miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, biking and camping; Deep Creek in Bryson City (for tubing down white water there's no better place on earth;) Harrah's Casinos in Cherokee and Murphy; Tsali Recreational Area with miles of scenic trails for horseback riding, hiking and WORLD FAMOUS mountain biking.
This area really is an outdoor lovers dream. Rent a pontoon boat for the day from one of the area's many marinas and explore Fontana Lake or Lake Santeetlah. Book a guided fly fishing excursion with a local outfitter or visit a local trout pond if you like "catching" more than "fishing." Visit Bryson City Outdoors and rent a stand-up paddle board for the day or take a yoga class on a stand-up paddle board. There's even a new Robert Trent Jones golf course only minutes away: the Sequoyah National Golf Course. Whatever it is you choose to do, it's all available and it's all close by.
Whether you desire a restful vacation sitting on the porch taking in the long range views or a place to call home in between adventures, The Hydeaway is just what the doctor ordered.
