The hotel was beautiful and historic with a great location right across the street from a city park (unfenced) for quick and convenient potty breaks. The check-in desk was very accommodating and offered to give us a room on a lower floor in case our dog wasn't accustomed to elevators (he is, so it was no problem).

The Citizen Hotel was a very central location. Most pet friendly hotels near Sacramento seem to be north of Sacramento. The hotel is across from the Cesar Chavez Park, so we took our dog on a short walk or potty breaks around there, since there are no specific area for pet relief on the hotel site. Staff here are very friendly, my dog has gotten spoiled with a few pets and treats. The only thing that kept this hotel from receiving 5 bones is that it is part of the Marriott so you'll have to pay for Wi-Fi if you did not book with your Marriott membership. If there was a way to get free Wi-Fi in the rooms, we weren't able to figure it out on our stay. Other than that, this hotel was great!

The hotel is clean and quiet, staff were very helpful and attentive. Strongly suggest taking your dogs down to Capital park for a walk. Cesar Chavez park is full of rats, my dogs were going crazy trying to chase them. No parking included.

Beautiful building, staff, and room in the midst of a city trying hard to renew itself. Park directly across the street is useful but not yet renewed for relaxed strolling or sitting. Would definitely stay again in this cocoon of loveliness and security.

The hotel on the inside was wonderful. Nick who checked us in was extremely helpful and welcoming. We absolutely loved our view of the capital. The hotel was walking distance to lots of great restaurants and old Sacramento.

Cool hotel located across from park with many homeless and street people.

Inside the hotel is great, but outside there was music playing until midnight. Generally the area feels a bit sketch but overall ok.

I stayed at the hotel during COVID-19 so I know my experience as far as taking advantage of the amenities was limited. No special treats, things closed, pick up food only etc. so not judging based on that. It’s a weird time.
The room was great - clean, comfortable bed, nice bathroom, good design, and a fantastic view of the capital. Parking is either on the street or in the city hall structure.
But I did not feel comfortable walking my dog in the park area across the street due to the homeless population. I’d recommend any other solo female travelers book outside of the downtown area.
