Great pet friendly lake for canoeing and kayaking

We were eager to train our eight month old puppy Lola Joy in both a canoe and kayak. Silver Lake in the Blackwell Forest preserve is near our house so we spent a Sunday afternoon there. You can rent a boat, paddle boat, kayak or canoe. Even though it was a very busy day, the lake is large enough so our puppy was not overwhelmed. We were very nervous because this was her first time on a large body of water. My husband and I were in a canoe and our teenage kids were in a kayak. Our pub did great both on the canoe and the kayak. There are no motor boats on this lake, just lots of wildlife and natural beauty! They rent the water crafts on a first come first serve basis, the fees range between $15 and $20 an hour.
