- SamanthaMay 26, 2024Great spot!
All in all it was a great spot and food was delicious! I only gave 4 bones because our server gave every dog in her area a water bowl and offered to give treats however when we were sat she did not offer us a water bowl or treats for our Lilly. Pretty upset by that and I’m glad I had my own bowl to give her water from.
- CatherineOct 28, 2023Dog-loving staff
While dogs aren’t permitted inside, the host gladly waited with my dog while I went inside to use the restroom, and when I came back he had a goodie bag of dog treats for me to take with me to my table! Patio was comfortable and staff was very friendly. They do not take reservations but there were free tables on the patio, so we got a table no problem and it was a Saturday night.
- AngieSep 20, 2023Barney goes to O’Briens
O’Briens was a friendly place for our pup Barney. They even gave out dog treats. the tomato basil pasta was delicious and so was the mudslide.
- JessicaAug 16, 2023Good food, good vibes, very dog friendly
We had lunch on the patio with our dog & the restaurant was extremely dog friendly. At first we were the only table with a dog, but a couple more came through. Food was great, so was our service. Highly recommend for a casual outdoor lunch with your doggo.

- SunshineMay 19, 2023Dog friendly
Very dog friendly. As soon as you are seating they brought out a large bowl of water with ice. They also gave the pups a baggie of dog treats. Good Bar food.
- LexiMay 6, 2023Super dog friendly outside, food is mediocre
For being dog friendly they were perfect! super easy, just sat out on the patio with plenty of space (we have a 76 pound dog). lots of other dogs there as well.
only bad part was the food was not so good. service was also mediocre but at least it was a place to go with the dog.
- LauraMay 13, 2022Dugs in pubs
We loved this dog friendly space! Our waiter Connor was awesome and the buser brought the puppy some treats. Definitely pub fare but it was yummy!
- KayDec 8, 2021Call before you go
We stopped by for lunch. They would not serve anyone on the patio, so no dogs.

Brought my son and pup here for dinner. There were so many pups already there. This place has a menu for dogs and brings the dogs water bowls. The staff was friendly and the food great!
- AmandaJul 10, 2019A Great First Dog-Friendly Meal
We’ve never taken our nervous pooch out for dinner. We’re on a road trip, and this was a great spot for us to hang out together AND make it extra rewarding for him! The waitress deliver a bowl of ice water and we order him som grilled chicken. It came in a compostable dog bowl... awesome! Would love to go back anytime.
Better yet, the kids (ages 7-8) spent over and hour playing in the fishing fountain!

O'Briens is a cool place we visit frequently with our 2 pups! By far one of the most dog friendly places is this region. Great menu for humans and dogs, and the dogs get lots of attention. It is on very busy Thames street with lots going on so folks with nervous pups may want to be cautious.
- JeannieJun 22, 2019Awesome Patio Awesome Staff
So dog friendly, they even have a menu designed for the dogs (chicken breast, hamburger patty etc) they cut it up in small pieces and serve in a dog bowl.
Servers always bring fresh water too! Everyone comes over and gives love to the pups. Overall, on of the best places to visit with your babies. And ask for Sara! She’s amazing and so attentive to the pups. - MitchMore than a year agoGreat place!
Great atmosphere, met us with a bowl of ice water for our dog, on the way out they gave our pup a little doggie bag with a few treats. Highly recommend checking it out if looking for pub food and beer with your pup.
- CaitlinJul 7, 2018Most pup-friendly restaurant in Newport!
We visited O’Briens on our last night in Newport and it was hands down the most dog friendly place on our trip. We walked in to see a handful of groups with dogs on the spacious patio, and we were easily accommodated when we asked to sit further away from the live music (our dog doesn’t love loud noises).
The server brought her a nice big bowl of ice water, and though we didn’t peruse the “doggie dining” menu (we had just fed her), they also brought out 2 milkbone treats along with our human food.
Everyone was super kind to us and our dog and we would definitely come back for that experience, plus the ambience and the food!

I was traveling on business in Hartford, CT and extended my trip a day to spend in Newport, RI. My partner and I stopped here for a quick, light bite to eat before our harbor cruise. We had our pup, of course! The food was great and reasonably priced. The staff was very welcoming with the dog and (I think) the owner was very playful with our dog and gave us a doggy bag with treats :) Great spot!
- TheraMore than a year agoCool spot!
This was a nice, chill bar spot to bring our dog and hang out in the Newport atmosphere. Nothing special about the food...just your typical bar food, but they brought two little milkbones and a bowl of ice water for our pup! Will def come back here again!

I was treated very well at O'Briens! I was given a dog bowl of ice water and ordered the grilled chicken off the dog menu. It was great, and I felt welcome!
- KellyMore than a year agoGreat dog friendly pub!
We had lunch at O'Briens today with our 2 Portuguese Water Dog puppies. As others have mentioned, they were both given a bowl of ice water and a bag of treats! It was so awesome, especially since is was a 90 degree day. The love for dogs also made us feel very comfortable. The sandwiches we had were great and the entire menu is very reasonably priced. We will definetly go back!

Very accommodating. We sat down and our dog got his bowl of ice water before we even opened our menus. From their menu for dogs we ordered our little guy the 4 oz burger. He loved it. Super friendly staff. We will be back.

O'Briens Pub is a great place to go as a pet friendly eatery. When we got there, they greeted our little dog Muppet with a big bowl of water with ice. They also had a special doggie menu, and we ordered her a hamburger, which came cut up into small pieces. As for the human food, it was quite good. The lobster roll was great, and so was the New England clam chowder. Whats nice is that other than a few barks from the dogs, it was a quiet place.

We visited with our Shar-pei mix puppy, Leela. It was a warm day, so the hostess immediately came out with a bowl of ice water and dog treats. There was plenty of shade and places for Leela to lay down and relax. The human food was good. Bar-type food, but done well.
- KelleyMore than a year agoGreat for dogs and owners
Great doggie menu (hot dogs, beef burgers, and chicken) plus excellent beer menu and food for their owners :) The wait staff was very kind and LOVED having the dogs around. upon arrival dogs were greeted with an ice cold bowl of water and a doggie menu! My husband, Gunner (male boxer), Ellie (Female Boxer) and I enjoyed the spacious patio and the company of other dogs and their owners :) plus EVERYONE there, with or without dog, enjoy the company of all dogs on patio! A great place to visit!
