Great hotel for pets, needs updates

La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Lancaster

We stayed for 2 nights to attend the Moses show at the Sight & Sound theater. It’s really helpful they will let the dog stay in the room alone. We left Mabel alone twice, once for the show and once to go eat at Miller’s Smorgasbord. The hotel is fine but needs upkeep. I knocked a point off for the sagging shower rod (see photo). We were assigned a room on the second floor due to the type of room I reserved (2 queen beds). It worked out fine and Mabel adapted to the elevator with no issues. The breakfast buffet leaves something to be desired. Hot food the first morning was biscuits and chipped beef, second morning it was biscuits and sausage gravy. It looked like instant oatmeal was available but not clear how to make it. It would have been nice to have eggs and bacon or sausage. Anyway our stay was fine, but I was concerned about that shower curtain rod. The least tug and it will come down. I reported it. $50 a night extra for the dog was kinda hefty (max fee is $100 even if stay more than 2 nights). Staff was friendly and gave us new towels and took the trash when we requested it, as we’d had the do not disturb sign up for several hours.

Great beer, dog friendly!

Bespoke Brewing

it is our privilege to be the first reviewers. it’s important to note that they are moving west about 500’ to the Strasburg Rail shops where they will have lots more space and parking. New address will be 226 Gap Rd by Sept 1. Excellent beer. i had the pilsner and Mr had the lager. Mabel enjoyed her water. we both had the cheddar-broccoli soup and shared the spring board. Tasty all around and very welcoming to our Basset Mabel.

Dogs welcome but…

Eadies Fish House

When they are busy, typically in the evening, fogs will not be welcome. We took Mabel on a cool, sunny day. Honestly, we’d have sat inside if we didn’t have her along. We brought her bed so she’d know her spot. server took pictures of her. Good food, reasonably priced. We especially recommend the clam chowder. Water was brought for Mabel. The only negative about the porch area is all the bird poop.

A+

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Lexington South Hamburg Place

Great place to stay. Very comfortable room with kitchenette. Close access to outdoors for our Basset. Only negative is that our dog can’t tolerate salt on her paws and it was everywhere, even in the hallways. A side effect of recent severe weather but I’m not going to ding them for that. GrubHub delivered dinner to our room. Breakfast had some good options and was complimentary.

Fine until the flood

Best Western Plus Duluth Sugarloaf

On Christmas Day, pipes had frozen and then burst cascading water down the front of the building and into the lobby area. Until then, all was good. Nice accessible pet areas outside. Meager breakfast on Christmas. We were forced to leave a day early and are waiting for a credit for the second night. What a nightmare. The deluge was accompanied by the fire alarm. The fire dept came but it’s clear the maintenance staff on duty did not know how to shut off the water or the alarm.

A+ all around

Aloft Charlotte Ballantyne

What a great hotel. Beautiful, dog friendly. We had room 101, right near a side exit door. Perfect location. The room was beautiful. Would stay here again or at any other Aloft Hotel. Plenty of grassy areas. Ideal.

Good for a night

Travelodge by Wyndham Wytheville

We were the first doggie guests to arrive so we got room 501 on the end. Good spot as the sliding door opens almost onto grass. The room is very basic and the bathroom quite small. Keyed entry to the room is from the hallway but the doggie rooms also have the slider. The doors to enter the building are not locked but we felt secure. Soundproofing is minimal and there was a periodically noisy dog next door. Papa John’s delivered pizza. Best part was backing the car almost to the sliding door to bring in our gear. Plenty of grass for the dog but some deposits not cleaned up. Not charged pet fee.
