Our favorite local pet shop
The Dapper HoundThe staff are very friendly, but are a bit hands off. I can see where this may be off-putting to some, but it's exactly how I prefer to shop. I have been greeted warmly but not followed or generally asked if I need help. I have had no issues with approaching them with questions and getting a nice and knowledgeable response.
The store itself is on the smaller side, so naturally the items are limited. There are plenty of clothing options for both humans and pets, leashes, bowls, and yard signs. There's plenty of treats and other goodies. The options of chews are top tier and have saved me on shipping costs. My dog knows exactly where The Dapper Hound is and will make sure we stop in if I make the mistake of walking on that side of the street.
Beautiful trail!
Ararat River GreenwayThe trail is just under 7 miles with the majority of it along the river. There are some short off-shoots into the woods that can be fun to explore. The river has many access points and several sandy banks that are perfect to relax on. You'll usually be able to see herons or other large birds.
The trail has multiple entrances (Veteran's Park, Tharrington Park, Lowry Park, behind Big Lots, behind Roses, and Riverside Park to name some). These entrances generally have a restroom, picnic tables, and some have ball fields. Some of the trail is wooded, some of the trail is surrounded by open spaces. The bikers, as far as I've experienced, are great about announcing their presence with time to react (but it never hurts to stay to the right just in case!).
The entrance behind Roses also has the Rotary Pup Dog Park as well.
Great dog park!
Rotary Pup Dog ParkThis dog park is well maintained and has many regulars with very friendly and well socialized dogs. There's a Facebook group where meetups are planned. There are many large dogs that I have no qualms about taking my 20lb corgi to the large side to play with.
However, there are the occasional poorly behaved dogs that come in. I recommend watching the dogs and having a through the fence greeting before coming in. Once you figure out who plays nicely, the park is a great place to go!
Wonderful vineyard!
Golden Road VineyardsThe owners and staff are incredibly friendly! They're all-inclusive and the atmosphere could not be more welcoming. The view is great and the wine delicious.
I went to a live event and, surprisingly, only had the only dog wandering around. I was told the owner's two dogs generally hang around, but had a skunk incident the day before. They were told I was bringing a dog and had a water bowl out before I even got there. Crista checked in more than once to make sure my dog still had water (and honestly picked him up and walked off with him for awhile, to his absolute joy).
A great place to relax!
Serre VineyardsI did not bring my dog to this vineyard yet, but I feel that he would be more than welcome! There were several dogs the last time I went, including their own French Bulldog(s). I saw plenty of water, and the French Bulldogs were well socialized and ready to play with whatever other dog was there.
The vineyard itself has a very friendly atmosphere and an incredible view. The owners are incredibly nice and generous people. They have many events that are worth going to!
Great little coffeeshop!
Keepsmiling A’LatteAngel and her staff could not be any more welcoming and nice than they are. There are many options available and not a single one is a bad choice. There are tables and chairs outside under the awning, but a larger sitting area is being built behind the building.
