Just like home

Traveling with a teenager and our two pups, this efficiency apartment was a perfect arrangement for our 6-day stay.

NOISE: We were located in building #9, ground floor, and while it was close to the highway, it was sheltered by trees; we experienced very little of the traffic noise (with the exception of someone who needed to test the engine of their motorcycle at 10 PM). Our unit was full of guests, but we never heard any outside noise from their coming/going or time in the apartment. Walls were well insulated.

CLEANLINESS: The apartment was 100% clean and well maintained. No odor or dampness that we have experienced in other hotels while traveling. No ants or other bugs. Kitchen was well stocked with the basics for cooking and eating. The pool was lovely, crystal-clear and well maintained, with additional towels provided poolside.

DOG SERVICES: The dog exercise area was admittedly small, but there is a beautiful dog/family park nearby (Endicott Park). We made frequent use of the park for exercise.

CONVENIENCES: Loved that there was a Costco across the parking lot from the apartments; made for convenient food shopping. We did not use the laundry services, but the exterior door had a window, was located near the check-in, and required a room key to access. It felt safe.

BREAKFAST: Staff were all pleasant. Breakfast had enough variety to keep it interesting, yet always with a few regular items to ensure you had something to fall back on if the main entree wasn't to your liking. (standards: yogurt, dry cereal, bagels, muffins, toast, DIY waffles, juices and coffee/tea. Changing hot entrees: eggs, sausage, burritos, quiche, pre-formed omelettes).

The only CRITICISM is that the hotel is located on a divided highway, so if you wanted to go anywhere to the left, you first had to go right. Also a hassle for coming home and needing to pass by the hotel before being able to do a figure eight turnaround. Overall, we look forward to staying here again.

Beautiful views and friendly staff

Beautiful sunrise views of Lake Superior and a great green area to exercise the dogs! This breathtaking hotel has a drop-off zone and several luggage caddies for convenience. If you intend to leave the dogs unattended, you will need to bring a crate, per the policy. And there were so many dog families there when we visited! You'd never know. The room design provided a buffer from the hallway traffic. I never heard a bark!

When we arrived (June, 2024) there was a sign on the door asking forgiveness for their renovations. Aside from some caution tape and area rugs smoothing floor transitions, there was never any noise the four days/three nights. The pool and hot tub were well maintained and clean. Plenty of towels! Beds were comfortable and linens were clean. There was a small mini fridge and a Keurig machine with coffee in the room; fresh coffee and hot water were available in the hotel lobby continuously.

Breakfast offered a variety of hot and cold foods, fruit, juices, and a pancake machine. The eating area was fair in size; we ate out on the patio because of the beautiful weather. Lakeside rooms in the back of the hotel had small balconies; we were on the first floor in the front of the hotel. Some dog families were on the upper floors.

Concierge Jordan was super helpful in making our stay prefect. He was able to answer all our questions and offer local tips and insights about rock hounding and dog-friendly beaches and parks. Don't go without trying a beef or fruit pasty from Muldoons or a boat tour of Pictured Rocks!

Never again!

Arrived and told that they didn't have the room we reserved - two queen beds. We were given two double beds on the second floor, according to the concierge. I requested a discount because of the downgrade and told that couldn't be done because we booked through a third party; contacted BringFido, and Red Roof Inn LIED and told them we did have two queen beds. Definite lack of professionalism in attire. One of the staff didn't even have on shoes.

The room was spacious but housekeeping was lacking - stained sheets, less than half a roll of toilet paper with no backup, gritty floor, hair in the bathtub, only towels for two people when there were three booked for the room. One-inch gap under the door and light coming in through the door jam. The hallway wreaked of cigarette smoke and some other odd aroma. We were there less than 15 hours and counted down every minute! Most channels on the television were scrambled, and of the ones you could watch, a message popped up after ten minutes telling you 'weak connection.' There were no storms in the area.

Immediately cancelled our reservations for the return trip through BringFido the moment we were out the door! Yes, there is a green space to walk the dogs, but it is right next to the highway, which was distressing to the dogs. On a plus, it's near a community park and pond which was great for walking the dogs and getting out of the room.

Spacious living

What I truly appreciated about this hotel was the spaciousness of the rooms and bathroom! No need to feel like you are crammed together, climbing over luggage, like some other hotel chains. If we had a dog-only room, I never knew it! The entire facility was very clean. They also had a policy that allowed dogs to remain in the rooms unsupervised - which is not true of every hotel. Nice variety of cable channels - something for everyone. Breakfast was hot and well-stocked; plenty of seating. Pool was a bit over-chlorinated.

Pleasant 4 days

Outdoor pool was well kept. Ample grass area for walking pups with a poop station. 2Q bedroom had enough space for 3 plus 30# dog. Must crate dog when out of room. Hot breakfast had good amount of variety including eggs, meat, and make it yourself waffles. The downside of our accommodations were that the bathroom had a smoky smell on arrival and the room was perpetually damp, in spite of running the air conditioner constantly. Towels and swimsuits never dried and there's no laundry facility on site to dry them.
