Kimpton losing its luster?

We have stayed at the Brice Hotel in Savannah many times. Let me start with the positive: Ebony at the front desk was terrific. Very welcoming and professional. The complimentary happy hour with wine was lovely, and the lobby was very comfortable. The courtyard looked great, though it was too cool to be outside when we were there. It's in a great location in the historic district.

But the negatives were pretty significant. Kimpton used to give you a welcome kit for your canine companion at check-in, with a small bag of dog treats, waste bags, a dog bed in the room, and a list of dog parks and restaurants that allowed pets. No more. Our room was very small, and we had to ask for a luggage rack. Barely could get around the bed. Kimpton used to have an edgy vibe, with vivid colors and interesting wall paper and furnishings. No more. In fact the one chair in the room was very ordinary and boring. Kimpton has lost its unique personality.

Worst of all, checking out on Sunday morning was a nightmare. We asked for a valet to help with luggage. No one came for 20 minutes, so my husband went downstairs and brought up a luggage rack. All the other guests were schlepping their own luggage too. We never saw any hotel employee helping with luggage. There was ONE person at the valet stand to retrieve all cars. The line was long. The young woman on duty had to retrieve each car one by one. She was running from the garage to the hotel as hard as she could, so this wasn't her fault. There should have been multiple employees to help with luggage and retrieving cars on a Sunday morning. We feared that the purchase of Kimpton by IHG would result in a decrease in service and personality. At the Brice, that fear is proving true..

Tasty West End Restaurant

We enjoyed very tasty lunch at this spot we have visited several times before. There are a handful of outside tables. There were 2 large umbrellas, but one was broken and they didn't offer to seat us at the table sheltered by the working umbrella. Our table was shaded by the building. Service was attentive and prompt. Server did not offer our pup a bowl of water but we didn't ask because she rarely drinks. Our meals were excellent and there were several additional things on the menu that we wished we could order.

Gourmet Experience on Tobacco Row

We were delighted with our date at Bookbinders. As soon as we were seated water was offered for our canine companion. The bowl was big enough for our mini-schnauzer to bathe in!

Our server Alex, was excellent. The menu is appealing. The special Hanover tomato salad was perfect. The petite filet was a perfect medium rare as ordered and the seafood special of rockfish stuffed with crab was flavorful, moist, and tender. Steamed asparagus was delicious. The runners who brought the food could use some additional training. Smiles would be good and with only 2 at the table they should have had some indication of which entree went to the lady and which to the gent. Because the standards otherwise were so high, this lapse seemed more jarring. It is great that a member of the family which owns the restaurant is on site and stops by each table.

The Hill Cafe is great for dogs and people

The Hill Cafe, located on Church Hill in Richmond, was terrific. The staff was welcoming to us and our miniature schnauzer. The outdoor tables are under a covered awning rather than umbrellas, which came in very handy as a quick rain storm came up but we were able to stay dry and happy. The food was excellent. We will return.

Excellent place to bring your fur baby.

Union Market on Church Hill has a very attractive patio with many umbrellas and dog bowls. The food, which you order at a window on the patio, was delicious, and the menu large and diverse, catering to vegetarians as well as meat lovers. We will definitely return!
