We are a military family with two pets, one cat and one dog. Being military, we go on many long road trips to move or visit family. Bringfido has been an amazing resource and I look forward to contributing reviews to help others.

Good food, not the best seating area for dogs.

Halo Burger

I was tempted to take off a star for the long wait to get our food (I think this was partially due to their dining room being closed so everybody had to wait in a long line). But, the wait was worth it. The food was amazing! We aren't from the area and were passing through to visit family. Delicious food, wish we had one near us.

That said, I do have ONE minor complaint. We needed to stop somewhere to eat and the only outside seating they had was right next to the drive through. Which meant you'd have to sit next to loud, running cars and the speaker etc. We didn't like that atmosphere and the fact we have 2 small kids with us and a dog so being that close to cars just didn't seem that safe so we took our food to a park. With the dining area closed, I wish there were more options for eating in that immediate area.

Above and beyond, GO HERE

Black Sheep Burrito & Brews

I can't rave enough about this place. The food was AMAZING. They also were very welcoming to us eating outside with our dog. We also weren't the only ones there with a dog.

On top of that, the employees went above and beyond. There was a sudden TORRENTIAL downpour of rain and they came out and helped move all our food, chairs, etc out of the rain and under the awning quickly.

If we ever stop by this city on a drive (we are not local) we will definitely be going here again.

If you are considering where to eat, GO HERE!

Great spot!

The Cove

The hosts, our waiter, etc. were ALL amazing. Our waiter also had a great sense of humor and brought our dog a bowl of water!

We sat at the picnic table out front and they had no issues with having our dog there. We had a great time, and every single person, including 3 kids and 4 adults, were impressed by their food. I'm the weirdo that ordered the chicken sandwich at a seafood restaurant and it was actually one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had.

Their restrooms, although busy when we went, were very nice and clean too.

Great atmosphere, great people, great food.

Great ice cream, plentiful seating

Bardon's Wonder Freeze

We are from out of town, but have family in town. It was a tradition every summer growing up to go from the beach to get ice cream here. Of course now that I'm an adult I had to continue the tradition with my husband and two kids. I hate how it has gotten built up around it and the parking lot is now so tiny. But even with a crowd, they were fast and the line moved quickly. The prices are phenomenal, service is great, and ice cream is SO GOOD. I had never had soft serve cotton candy ice cream before and now I wish I could find it elsewhere! So good! My husband had the cherry jubilee(?) and it was some of the best ice cream. It may be the nostalgia talking, but this is definitely one of the best ice cream shops! Their seating area is nice and plentiful, too.

The food was great and service phenomenal.

Crooked Pint Ale House

We loved that we could eat outside with our dog on the patio. They even brought him some water. They were very kid-friendly too!

Beautiful and spatious

Stoney Creek Hotel La Crosse - Onalaska

Great hotel. Wonderful decor, the room was spacious, the bunk beds were so much fun for the kids. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the fire sprinkler being right above the top bunk. I was SO worried/anxious that my five year old might bump it. Luckily it had a little "cage" on it but still was worried. The bathroom was nice, loved that the sink was separate. We didn't use the kitchenette but it was nice. Seating for the TV was good (it stormed one night, so having that was good).

The kids both liked the pool. We loved the king bed because even with the bunk beds one of our kids ended up in our bed. Breakfast was good, and the people working there were so friendly! They gave our kids little beach balls. It was great overall, and being dog friendly was amazing! The only complaint I'd have is the key cards did not work properly. One of them didn't work at all and the other would take like 10 swipes before it would unlock the door. Oh, and the parking lot was packed with vehicles with large trailers and therefore hard to navigate (could only go one direction). I don't fault the hotel for that, though since it is caused by guests.

Dog Friendly, not people friendly

Drury Inn & Suites Knoxville West

We are very loyal to Drury Inns when traveling but unfortunately this one did not meet our expectations. It was very strange to us that my husband couldn't check us in since it was under my name. I understand the reasoning but saying it was a company wide policy didn't seem to hold up. This was our third Drury Inn on this vacation and this was the first time they needed to see my ID.

I wasn't a fan of the location and the parking lot especially. It was very small and very loud. On top of that, not well lit. When I was stuck parking far from the door I did not feel especially safe at night.

They only provided us with one drink card despite two adults being in the room and only had two drinks on it. The previous Drury Inns provided both my husband and I with the drink cards and three drinks a piece.

The worst part though was the bathroom in our room. Even though I had booked it with two kids on the reservation they provided us a shower stall instead of a bathtub. I was like we can make this work. However, I did not shower in it first before having my daughter shower in it (and helping her which basically got water everywhere). I wish I had showered first because I would have realized the shower had absolutely no grip/texture on the floor and was SLICK. She slipped and banged her forehead. It could have been SO much worse (like if her head had banged into the shower seat, or hit the back of her head, or broke something). Fortunately she only had a bump on her forehead though it really scared her and she was crying and screaming for a long time. My husband went to the front desk to tell them what happened and recommend that they don't rent the room out to families with kids and also warn them about how slick it was. I was very careful showering later and made my son sit in it for his shower. It was SO slippery. Downright dangerous. When he spoke to the front desk they just excused it by saying that they were working on improvements and renovations. Honestly, they shouldn't rent that room out until they improve the grip in that shower. I hope they took us seriously.

We didn't make it in time for dinner, but the breakfast was decent.

Great property

Drury Inn & Suites Champaign

We love Drury Inns and are pretty loyal to them when they are in the areas we are. This one was no exception. Great comfy rooms, dog friendly, good breakfast. Dinner was good, too. The staff was very friendly, too.

Great experience

Shepler's Ferry

Great experience! They were also very welcoming to our wary dog. We rode underneath on the way, be prepared for loud noise in the cabin. We rode up top on the way back and preferred that but be prepared for wind and some COLD water spray if you sit up there! Our dog did really well, better than we expected. I think due to the relaxed atmosphere and seeing other dogs on board!

The dog-friendliest!

Mackinac Island

Everywhere we went (outdoors) was dog friendly, and there were so many other dogs, too. Even the fort allowed dogs! It looked like the bike rental places even had dog-ferrying bikes!

Worth the time to stop by!

Kitch-iti-kipi

We were recommended to stop here on our road trip by a family friend. And what a great place to "stretch" and take a break! Breathtaking! Ride the raft, we took our dog on it. Such a unique experience.

Not great, not terrible

Grand Traverse Motel

We stayed here for a few nights. The first room we were in was okay. The second we were in was better and bigger, though it was a BIG hassle and we told them we'd prefer not moving to the bigger room due to that. The reason it was such a huge hassle is because the workers are not there until late in the morning and not there late at night, plus we had to wait for them to clean the 2nd room. It really messed up our plans for our vacation and had my husband driving from Sleeping Bear Dunes back to the hotel and back to the dunes to deal with moving our stuff. So he didn't really get to enjoy the dunes with the kids. We would have been totally fine staying in the smaller room but they insisted on moving us to the bigger one.

The hours they list for being present are not accurate to when they are actually there. But they are very friendly when they are there and do respond promptly to e-mails. The "free breakfast" was lacking so I recommend looking up and planning on grabbing breakfast elsewhere. The prices are a little high on weekends for what you get just because it is Traverse City and everything gets booked up. Supply and demand, but the weekday prices are phenomenal.

It does look kinda sketchy and outdated, especially compared to other hotels in the area. When we pulled in there was even somebody in the parking lot with an ankle monitor on. They use old fashioned keys for the rooms and in our first room the deadbolt didn't lock/work with the key when leaving. You can tell they are working on renovating the rooms, though. The 2nd room looked nice and was better overall but if you have crawling kids/babies I would avoid the place. They had exposed pipes and wires etc along the back wall in the bathroom under the counter.

They are dog-friendly which is the only reason we booked with them. The dog-friendly hotels in the area are few and far between with availability and decent pricing. Just be prepared to pay the extra pet fee and also keep in mind that this hotel has a lot of noise. So if your dog barks at noises/voices I would find somewhere else.

Great experience, highly recommend!

Holiday Inn Express Logan an IHG Hotel

Extremely friendly, they were very inviting to us and our dog. They also didn't charge us for the dog, which is a pleasant surprise since most hotels charge a dog fee (unless it was included in our rate and I just didn't know haha). Very comfy, very clean, decent breakfast. Loved everything.
