Broken lock, small ‘suite’
Quality Inn & SuitesI normally don’t book a hotel room until after dark when I travel so it’s catch as catch can. I got tired on the road and just loaded the BringFido app and picked a 3/5 rating place nearby and done (5/5 rating for the app experience btw, it’s like 8 clicks and booked, very nice).
I arrived after 10 and had to check-in with the side window. The employee was nice enough and mentioned the $20 pet charge and the breakfast in the morning. I was lucky to have a room on the bottom floor just down the hall. I paid for a king bed ‘suite’ for an extra $10 or so, and I’m not sure if that’s why I had a fridge and tiny microwave.
No extra room attached though, even the sink was in the main room - it was smaller than a regular room at other places I’ve booked at. The door lock was broken and wouldn’t close or lock properly without shoving it hard into the casing. It had a ‘hotel lock’ so I felt safe enough. Also, the lights in the main room didn’t work. In any other situation I would’ve just gone back and asked for another room, but it was already late and I was only there to sleep before hitting the road again in the early morning.
The king bed was okay so I let the dog sleep up there with me since the floor was vinyl plank. The wall heater unit thermostat was a few degrees off so it was hotter than I’d planned. The bathroom seemed a bit dingy to be honest and the handle seemed to be on backwards; once I figured it out the water was hot enough and the towels were dry, if not soft.
There wasn’t really an area to walk the dog so I walked him around the parking lot; luckily there was enough light to notice where the broken glass was so that was okay. I didn’t want to chance the ‘breakfast’ (which was only available from 5 to 9) so I just got McD’s on the drive out. I’m being a bit generous with 3/5 rating, but since the staff wasn’t rude and the room wasn’t filthy or loud or awful really, I don’t want to be too harsh. Total bill was $111.99. For that price, next time I’ll stay at a La Quinta.
Adequate
Americas Best Value Inn Knoxville EastIt was okay. The floor was hard so I had to put a towel down for him to sleep on. $13 cheaper than a La Quinta but no breakfast buffet and the room was quite small with few tv channels. The bathroom was rather dark as well. The staff was polite. They were out of ground floor pet rooms but they had a small elevator.
Cheap, rough, good enough
Budget Host Inn PottstownThis is a budget motel and so you should keep your expectations appropriate. No frills, rough around the edges, paper-thin walls, etc. that being said, it was warm and the TV, shower, and bed worked just fine. The ‘breakfast’ was a stack of honey buns and a pot of coffee and the front desk guy wasn’t too chatty, and I couldn’t park backwards to make unloading easier.. but it was cheap and my dog didn’t mind. There was a small strip of turf available to let him stretch his legs in the morning before heading out. Personally I’m thankful that cheap options still exist like this that are sub-$80 and have a hot private room, especially when it’s in the 20s outside.
