Spacious dog park for large dogs, but small dog side is very small

Lincoln Dog Park at Lincoln Drive Park

The Lincoln Dog Park has a spacious large dog side with water fountains and decent shade in the summer. There are often donated tennis balls to play with and extra bags to clean up if youve forgotten your own. Parking can be tricky if you have any mobility concerns (no parking spots near the park, just side street parking) but the entryway is flat and easy to enter. Despite the efforts of volunteers, many dog owners do not clean up after their dogs and if you walk the trail along the interior (4 times doing the perimeter of the dog park is a mile!) you’re almost always bound to step in something. In the summer, it’s not uncommon for some owners to bring puppies that are way too young to have all of their vaccinations over to the large dog side (on three separate occasions we met seven week old puppies of various mixed breeds) so use caution. while the large dog side is great, the small dog section is, well, small and lacks a lot of the features of the big side.

Brewery (not pizza!) for great summer experience

Rhombus Guys Brewing Company

There is a Rhombus Pizza and a Rhombus Brewery that both serve the same great beers, but note that the brewery is your dog friendly option for the short North Dakota summers! There is ample outdoor seating and the angle of the building means you’re usually in the shade but mid day might be tricky. Rhombus usually has water bowls available too!

Great Beer, Great Service, Great Place to Train

Drekker Brewing Co.

Drekkers is by far one of our favorite Fargo destinations. The “brewhalla” beer hall features so many varieties and flavors that I’ve never left without finding something I love and I take friends that “don’t like beer” here because the smoothie sour style beers and 21+ ice cream is a treat. Drekkers has ample outdoor seating with fire pits to sit with the pooches in fair wether and a back room that, as long as it’s not reserved, is open to well behaved pups as well. Staff have water bowls on hand and sell treats from spent grain that our boys love. No food onsite but there’s more often than not a great food truck on weekends and delivery drivers will bring your food to the front and staff will bring it to your table (which is insanely kind!!!) so you can keep your pups in the designated areas.

Not all parts of the trail are equal!

Constitution Trail

I’d love to give the Constitution Trail a 5/5 because it’s an amazing part of BloNo. However! Not all parts of the trail are equal—the access point by Hidden Creek is beautiful, clean, with plenty of benches. We accessed another part in a residential section just north of Normal that wove alongside a cornfield with benches and an irrigation pond that was a delight. When we discovered we were located near an access point in downtown Bloomington, we were thrilled—until we tried walking it three times. There is broken glass and garbage over a significant part of the trail. The trash cans are over flowing and in one section, several men waiting under an overpass followed us and kept trying to “ask us a question” even when we asked for space. (There is an unsheltered gentleman who is very kind and deserving of respect there so if you have an extra lunch he’s been appreciative!) Once you reach the beautiful cemetery you’re usually in the clear but use caution and only bring your dog if they have a good “leave it” command for the trash.

Short trail loops for short walks

Shady Hollow Nature Trail

Most of the trail loops at Shady Hollow are fairly short (the loop to and from parking is just about a mile according to our fitbit) and well cared for (grass was cut through the fields and while the trails are unpaved they were relatively level). Scenery is fields and woodlands with a stream that connects to the lake across from the parking area which has a garbage can to dispose of pet waste. The trails are closed in November for hunting season, however, so plan accordingly.

Good Beer and Nice Ambiance

White Oak Brewing

White Oak was one of the first places we added to our radar when moving to the area. They have ample outdoor seating at this brewery and will occasionally have food trucks

Good beer, Dog Friendly Staff

Breaker Brewing Company

Breaker Brewing Company is a must-stop destination if you are visiting the Wilkes-barre area with your pup.

Highlights of Breaker Brewing Company:

xx The staff will provide a water bowl, refill your pet's water, and occasionally give a treat.

xx The patio tables are located between two buildings, so there is plenty of shade. The tables are spaced far enough apart that small, medium, and large dogs can easily visit the brewery in a down-stay without providing a tripping hazard for the staff or customers.

xx The beer selection is really unique. The "Mine fire" is a family favorite. For non-beer drinkers, Breaker has a rotating wine selection from PA wineries.

xx The food menu changes periodically, but Breaker consistently offers great paninis and appetizers you're unlikely to find at most bars.

xx Breaker closes relatively early (9pm) so it's a place to start your night rather than ending it.

Great Pizza, Dog Friendly Inside & Out

Berwick Brewing Company

Berwick Brewing Company receives a lot of my business specifically because it's one of the few places I can take the dog during the cooler months. This makes it very easy to keep up on training those "down stay's" under tables and acclimate friendly dogs to a restaurant setting. I have never been to a bar as dog-friendly, serving good beer, and delicious pizza as Berwick Brewing Company.

Benefits of Berwick Brewing Co:

xx BBC has a wide selection of delicious pizza.

xx The beer selection is great! Brigg's Farmhouse is a personal favorite. For non-beer drinkers, BBC also offers wines.

xx Large, picnic-style seating both inside and out can easily accommodate groups of any size.

xx The outdoor section overlooks the river, features an outdoor bar, and has several games (jenga, beanbag toss) to help you pass the time.

xx The single bathroom is large enough that if you're traveling or dining alone, you can easily take your dog with you.

xx The cheesecurds on the weekend? Soo good!

xx Prices are extremely reasonable.

Drawbacks:
x You need to order at the bar which is one of the only things that makes it tricky if you're traveling alone with your pooch. For the outside bar, this is extremely easy, but if you're there on a rainy day or during the colder months that can be a challenge.

x Expect to bring your own water bowl.

Friendly Staff, Great Gelato

The Icery

The Icery is a gem and reason enough to visit Lansdowne. Offering water ice and gelato (with dairy & gluten free options!) , the Icery always has a variety of great flavors to try.

Located right off the Main Street, there are only two outdoor tables and a bench where you can sit with your pup.

While dogs are not allowed inside to order, I was informed via facebook that one of the staff will hold your leash so you can browse, order, and pay.

We visit here very frequently over the summer months!
