We took our two dogs here for their first time to the beach and it was perfect! Only reason for 4 stars was the directions are not clear and it took us a bit to find the dog friendly area(s). Thanks to the other reviewers for directions, it was still quite confusing so adding a few more directions/details below!** Bring lots of water as we didn’t find any spots to refill water and the showers were not ideal for cleaning off paws.

**GPS will take you to the welcome center which is BEFORE the bridge. Go past it and go over the bridge, then follow signs towards “National Park” (NOT state park) which will be the first right. After you go through the toll booths, you can either go to “North Ocean Beach” (first beach past the toll booths) which is technically a lifeguard beach, but dogs are permitted outside of the lifeguard area (which is marked by yellow flags with black dots). Or, you will need to drive about 1-1.5 miles down to either Ferry Landing (bay side) or South Ocean Beach.
