We just needed a place to rest at the EOD before we visited Monument Valley. Mexican Hat UT only had a single hotel option so we opted for Blanding. The breakfast was about what you’d expect - nothing hot. The room was okay. This isn’t anything to write home about but it got the job done for a place for us to stay for just a single night

Hotel staff calls us and tells us the pets aren’t allowed to be left unattended even if they are crated. We stated that rule is nowhere in their pet policy. Staff said “I know it isn’t, I’m telling you now though and you’ll have to leave tomorrow morning at checkout time.” I took a photo of their current pet policy, confirmed it’s not a policy you can’t leave them unattended. Staff told me “Well it’s common sense not to leave them alone.” Common sense?! Held my tongue a little. Said agree to disagree and filed a corporate complaint, we’ll see where that goes. Their excuse was each of these are privately owned so they can do whatever they want. Yeah right. If it’s not a rule in the policy WHICH I SCRUTINIZE then don’t tell me I have to interrupt my trip and plans because you made some rule up on the spot.

Partially my fault for not realizing this was a motel but it did feel like a nice one. The room was generally clean, the AC unit did make loud noises using the heat during the night that woke us up a bit. The shower was either burning hot or cold - was a bit difficult to get it in the right spot. Overall, after a 19-hr drive from Houston and spending the following day hiking, this was just barely alright especially if it meant saving money. However, if money isn’t the primary concern, spend another $80-$100 and get a better spot. They were however welcoming of the pet with expected pet fee per listing. Had no issues leaving pet unattended.
