Very Friendly FIVE BONES ALL DAY LONG
The Riverside Hotel BW Premier CollectionFrom the registration desk to the Sandbar pool bar/patio restaurant, this place is super dog friendly. Homemade dog treats to be had everywhere. I feel like this was a super nice hotel from the late 70’s, lots of brick and carved wood accents. They’ve done a pretty good job of trying to update where they can. Half of the bathroom is modern black granite and half is still vintage olive green/harvest gold. We stayed on a Tuesday night and there was live music at the Sandbar and the Lobby restaurant/bar. Fun place to stay and very kind staff to me and my pup.
You Get What You Pay For
Best Western Plus Landmark InnLocated in a very busy commercial area near the Hwy. The building is very loud and poorly constructed. My bed shook when someone walked down the hall and there seemed to be zero insulation between the rooms and hallway. The noise from the water/shower next door and above was outrageous. That said, it was a very affordable place to stay with a clean room and soft bed. Small lawn for the pup to do his business but there is a 26 acre fenced dog park less than two miles away.
Very Friendly
Adolph's Restaurant & BarI arrived a little bit before the kitchen opened but they seated me on the patio with my pup and the bartender took great care of us with a glass of rosé and a water bowl. The restaurant seems like a time capsule from 1982, vintage and cool. I loved it, and the Swiss fare was delicious.
Lotsa Pups
Hatch Taqueria & TequilasCame for dinner at 6p got seated at 7:15. Busy and popular but worth the wait. Very dog friendly and lots of outdoor seating.
Very Friendly
Cafe GenevieveLarge portions. Brought the pup a water bowl and an unsalted burger patty with my entree. Just a block away from the Jackson Square park.
Not great.
Super 8 by Wyndham Bakersfield/CentralI arrived at 2:30 to be told I could not check in until 3pm. The rooms haven’t been cleaned they said. So after waiting 30 minutes there was a shift change and magically all of the rooms had been cleaned. Whatever. I should have spent the time examining the neighborhood. There are transient homeless everywhere. The covered check in/driveway was closed. A wooden support beam had cracked in half. That should have given me an idea of the overall condition of this hotel. In the room the toilet/tub wet room seemed pretty clean. The same cannot be said of the rest of the room. The carpet was almost sticky, and where there was gum ground into the carpet, it was sticky. After dark this place appeared to be a haven for drug deals and sex workers. I took the dogs out to do their business and interrupted someone else’s ‘business’ on more than one occasion. When I tried to report these activities to the front desk I found the lobby door locked and no one there. I cannot recommend this hotel. It gets two stars because Bakersfield actually has worse options than this.
