Zero bones if I could

Upon arrival and check-in we paid the pet deposit of $10. We had reserved the room for one night in advance with a card. We wanted to pay cash when we arrived but they couldn’t (wouldn’t) change a $100 bill so we went ahead and charged the card they had on file. Then they demanded an additional deposit of $25, even though nowhere on the Motel 6 website is that mentioned and nowhere at their front office is it posted either. When questioned about why he couldn’t even give a reason. He told us if we paid cash they return it after the 11am at checkout time, even though we planned on leaving early for another long drive so we put it on the card too. The front desk clerk was super rude as it was and then he kept muttering to someone else while we were trying to discuss this random deposit with him.

The room was cleaner than the other Motel 6 we had stayed at recently but smelled strongly of pine sol. While we pulled back bed sheets and checked drapes for bugs I found nasty stains on the mattress covers. The sheets appeared clean but there was actually a hole torn in the sheet and the bedspread had a huge snag and a hole in it too. I took photos due to reviews where people were charged random deposits and accused of making the holes in bedding. We had extra sheets in our vehicle that we had used to cover the furniture at the condo we stayed at during our vacation so they wouldn’t get dog hair on it (even though it was dog friendly and allowed) and we laid those on top of the bed and covered with our own blanket since the stains were so bad on the mattress covers we wondered about the rest.

Apparently the managers and their family live there. It seemed they have an apartment upstairs because the kitchen smells and noise coming from the open window were strong and loud.

Once we got settled for the night after a very long day on the road from Calif. we hadn’t been in bed 30 minutes when we heard what sounded like a maid cart running up and down the corridor over and over and a group of men hanging outside the “apartment” door just a few feet away from our room window (we were in an upstairs exterior door room). The noise we were hearing along at least five or six men loudly half talking and half yelling outside of our window was their children pushing each other past the rooms in a grocery cart! They carried on like that until 10pm!

We waited until around 8am to checkout and could not do it in person because they lock the doors and nobody would come to the window to check us out so we left not knowing if they would check us out on time and if we would get that random $25 deposit back. They have long term “residents." There were vagrants hanging out in lawn chairs outside of their rooms. The grass for taking dogs out is not cleaned up though, which can mostly be blamed on people who don’t clean up after their dogs.

Stairwells are filthy and unlit and one is carpeted with big tattered chunks of carpet sticking up that anyone would trip over in the dark. Stairwells are dark and lighting was not working. The management friends and family hanging out and allowing their guests and children to run up and down and bring their visits to disturb the paying customers. The only positive thing about this stay is that we did get the deposit back three days later.

Room: 2 bones. Grounds and exterior: 1 bones. Staff: 0 bones. Charging unadvertised fees: 0 bones.
Having to share the space with loud management: 0 bones. I would not stay here again.
