Great stay

The Wingate was great. I love that there is no pet fee. We were on the first floor, and I noticed a lot of other pets on the first floor, so that may be their policy, which is so helpful. There are three small grassy pet relief areas and outside lots were well lit. Rooms were very clean, comfortable beds, great breakfast. Would definitely stay here again. Note that their policy is clear that you cannot leave your pet unattended, so the only downside here.

Steep but quick hike

A short, 1/4 mile hike up a mesa from the parking lot, to see petroglyphs and dinosaur tracks. The trail has several high steps and steep sections, around 2-3 ft high, that can be hard for a dog to jump up and were a little slippery, my dog needed a few pushes to help her up. So it's a good option if your dog is agile and used to steep hikes and jumping up on boulders. Trail is located at the trailhead for Longbow arch, which also allows dogs, so you can keep going if you're up for a longer hike.

Nice views and trails

This is a nice dog friendly alternative to Canyonlands Island in the Sky district. Trails are fairly flat with little elevation change, and go around both sides of the mesa top with great views of the Colorado River. There are maybe 5 or 6 miles of trails altogether, and hiking trails are separate from mountain biking. You can easily pick a few shorter trail sections and still see everything. Also has restrooms, a gift shop, camping, and even glamping yurts.

A great, easy short hike

My dog and I loved this hike! The views were amazing, what a cool arch. We are used to desert hiking, and my dog is good at climbing up steep and rocky slopes, and we found this hike to be pretty easy. Don't let the description of a steep section scare you! There is a steeper slope about a mile in, where steps have been carved into the rock face with a steel cable handhold for stability. My dog got up no problem, with one or two small pushes from me, but I didn't have to lift her up, just a push if she started to lose her grip, and that was primarily because she went up on the outside of the carved steps, silly girl. Above this there is an 8 ft ladder but you can just walk up a slope off to the side and skip the ladder altogether. And if you're still worried about kids or dogs getting up the steep section, you can always stop at this section and turn around, because you can still see the arch from this point. We passed maybe 15 or 20 other dogs while on this trail over the 1.5 hours the hike took us. It is clearly a very popular trail for dogs! There is plenty of parking, the lot holds maybe 40 cars with overflow parking at the campsite. I did this hike in winter and it was beautiful. Not recommended in summer, there would be no shade.

Cleanest budget motel

I have stayed here twice, once about 2 years ago and again in December 2025. I was happy to be able to arrange my travels to stay again, this place is great. I have stayed at a lot of cheap budget roadside motels, and I have reasonable expectations, usually expecting old buildings and middling cleanliness. This is the cleanest by far for budget motels. The building is a bit older, but it is clear that staff take extra care to clean the rooms thoroughly. You get easy parking right out front, low pet fee, lots of grassy space for pets. Room is pretty roomy, plenty of room for the kennel. Highly recommend, and I will definitely stay here again when passing through.

Fine for a travel stop

Room was not super clean, but not terrible, we managed for a night. Basic budget accommodations. Room had a microwave and fridge. Breakfast was minimal but it was nice to have something. After I checked in, they turned on the parking lot lights which were nice and bright. Has a pet relief area, next to the office and near the dumpster, though no pet waste bags, and some of the previous pet owners did not clean up after their dogs. Overall just fine for a night. I appreciate that the pet fee is only $10.

Great dog friendly location

This NPS site has lots of trails, some of which are dog friendly. Check the trailheads or at the visitor center for information on where dogs are allowed. Easy access from the highway.

Great pet option

Sleep Inn in Blackwell was a great, comfortable stay. The staff accommodated my request for a first floor room with the dog, but note that they only have a few rooms on the first floor so this may not always be possible. Room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. There were a lot of grassy areas around the parking lot for walking the dog. During my stay in December 2025 the pet fee was $15/night.

Nice budget option

Had no issues here, nothing fancy but a decent place for a budget friendly, pet friendly option. The room wasn't spotless but was clean enough. It is clear they maintain the outside well, no trash or pet waste. Limited areas for pets to potty, but we easily walked a bit down the street. I booked through the site, which means I left a note that I had a dog. I had booked a King room, but when I checked in, was told only the Double Queen rooms were pet friendly so I had to upgrade to that. Beware of this. They had a nice breakfast with lots of options.

Crowded

Dogs were welcome, staff and visitors did not mind the dog being there and they had a water bowl out front. They have front patio seating out on the sidewalk and back patio seating out back with beautiful views, where you can sit with your dog. The food was pretty quick given how busy it was, but it was really pricey for what it is, American counter fare. I paid $30 for a chicken sandwich and fries. It was so busy and crowded it was hard to find a place to sit with the dog comfortably. My dog generally likes to be out where she can see and interact with people, it's hard to get her to hide under the table or way off to the side. So it was a challenge here given the crowds and the small spaces between tables. I felt like we were in the way even though I made her sit right next to my chair.

Delicious and comfortable

This place was absolutely delicious. They have a lot of empanada options including some vegan options. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. They let me bring my dog through to the back patio, but if your dog has more than one human, someone could also bring the dog around the building to the back patio easily. They had patio heaters to take the chill off. Would highly recommend!

Great hike for dog

This hike was a great option. It is moderately busy, so expect to see others. The Broken Arrow trail parallels a jeep trail so you may see and hear off road vehicles even though you aren't on the same path. It makes a nice loop if you take the Twin Buttes and High on the Hog trails, both of which have more shade than Broken Arrow, but a bit more elevation change. Trail has a few steeper sections and a number of rocky and uneven portions. It leads to a cool overlook at Chicken Point, and you can take a spur detour to Submarine Rock which is self explanatory. Trail is well signed at all intersections.

Popular busy hike

This hike is easy to access right outside of Oak Creek. It is a wide, relatively flat trail, but connects to many others. It is fairly busy with hikers and bikers, so a good option if you need a short walk, and your dog doesn't mind saying hello to others and waiting for bikes to pass.

Empanada now next door

I went to eat here, after calling to confirm they are still dog friendly. They told me dogs are allowed on the patio and they do have heaters. But when I got there, they have posted that they don't serve the empanadas anymore. They opened another fast casual restaurant next door to sell the empanadas called Willy's Empanada House, which is where I ate. Willy's is also dog friendly. So, I can't actually describe Dellepiane's, but if you want the empanadas, note they are next door.
