Pricey but very nice

We had to pass thru Palo Alto with pups for one night to visit an elderly relative. Everything around there is expensive, so we picked El Prado for the convenient location mostly. It did not disappoint! At first we were bummed because the restaurant had pulled out of the hotel. In the end, this was perfect for us. They have a beautiful deco style lounge that nobody was in. So instead of figuring out a loud restaurant that our physically challenged family member could navigate that also allowed dogs, we took over the lounge and ordered room service expecting an overpriced, mediocre meal.

Surprise! The meal was fantastic. We had the place to ourselves (except for about 2 hotel guests that came thru wanting to pet our dogs). It was quiet and no more spendy than what we would have paid to go out. Plus, they comp’d bowls of peanut butter ice cream for both dogs!

The room was a little worn but not terribly. The balcony with table and chairs was a plus, especially since there’s no restaurant so the courtyard was quiet. When we got to our room, tiny dog beds, bigger dog blankets, water bowls, big dog cookies, and two dog toys were waiting. Nice neighborhoods with great cafes, park’s & restaurants right out the door.

It was the most expensive stop on our 2 week road trip, but we all agreed it was one of our favorite stops. One negative: no room in fridge for our stuff… instead bloated with ridiculously priced mini bar junk. Also, no in room coffee/tea & terrible comp coffee served on a couple of floors each morning. Fix those things and it’s 5 bones easy. (Found a great French bakery a block away for decent coffee.) If you’re lucky Eddie will be at the front desk. He’ll remind you: “My name’s Eddie, like Murphy.” And then laugh in that unforgettable laugh so you’ll never forget.

Delicious & free eggs for dogs

Stopped for coffee and was thrilled to discover an easy parking lot, a great menu, and outdoor dog friendly seating.

When we ordered they asked, “want eggs for your dogs?” Pause. “They’re free.”

The dogs definitely want to go back!

Human meal was also delicious!

A dump near a great park

The only thing good about this hotel is the large adjacent park for walking dogs. Everything else was not good. I requested a ground floor room and not to be put near an elevator, which would set off one of my dogs. They put us on the second floor directly across from the elevator. The walls are thin so we heard stomping feet and banging headboards all night. The sheets were dingy. The bed sagged. The furniture and curtains were tagged

The WiFi didn’t work, either showed up and went in and out or had ability to let me do the most basic web searches. When I asked when it would be fixed, they only gave me the name of the WiFi and password. The doors all bang. You hear everything. The adjacent park is great for leash walks. The one employee I saw for 2 minutes was nice but refused to move us from the elevator room. I will not go back.
