Boardwalk Trail
Congaree National ParkMoxie, Tonks, and I stopped by on our way back to Asheville from Florida. We had a couple of hours to spend and it was perfect for the Boardwalk trail. I was concerned about alligators with the dogs - but the Park Ranger assured me the only ones in the park were in Weston Lake and the boardwalk there was elevated. I found this to be true, so my concerns were unfounded. Wonderful walk on the boardwalk and the girls enjoyed it too. Next time I will be better prepared for the mosquitos. Thanks to the Park Ranger who watched Moxie and Tonks while I ducked into the gift shop to get my National Parks passport sticker.
Delicious!! Eight Paws Up!
Huckleberry'sHad a lovely lunch at Huckleberry's during a visit to Tryon. The servers immediately came out with water and treats for Moxie and Tonks! The peach Caprese salad is delicious and our burgers with sweet potato fries were scrumptious! Pleasant location in lovely downtown Tryon!
One of Our Favorite Places!
Little Arrow Outdoor ResortWe love Little Arrow Outdoor Resort! We have stayed several times in one of their tiny houses and hope to stay in our camper once we finally purchase one. The property is beautiful, the staff is really friendly, and they have lots of wonderful amenities such as food trucks, activities, and even robes in the tiny houses. For RV's there are luxury sites as well as some sites right on the river. It's very close to Cades Cove and. you can go tubing with River Rat right down the street (also dog friendly). They also offer add-ons such as stocking your fridge with breakfast, or decorate your cabin or RV pad for a special occasion.
In terms of dogs, there is a nice big dog park with bags and, in the tiny house, even a little blanket just for them. The BEST of ALL is that, for a fee, they offer dog sitting!!! So if you want to head out for the day without your pooch you can be sure they will be checked on regularly and well-loved by the Little Arrow staff. Five bones given by Moxie and Tonks!
Delightful downtown park
Founders ParkMoxie and Tonks loved this park! Great walkway through the park, partly by a little river. We enjoyed the sculptures throughout the park. Even took our food from White Duck Taco to go and sat in the shade, on a wall by the stream. Lots of other dogs to meet along the way. Fun little place to walk with your pups. 8 paws up from Moxie and Tonks.
Delicious Food, Outside Seating
White Duck Taco ShopWe love white duck taco - the food is delicious! This one had outdoor seating as usual for White Duck Taco, and dogs are welcome. Our only dismay was that the shaded tables were few and the rest were in full sun with no umbrellas. We opted to take our food to go and walk across the street to the wonderful Founders park and find a shady place by the river to dine - food on laps.
A little confusing
Edgewater ParkWonderful park to walk the dogs, right by Lake Erie. Moxie and Tonks especially enjoyed exploring the rocks by the lake. However, we were confused about the rules regarding the beach. Posters say no dogs allowed on the beach or in the water - yet there were quite a few dogs on the beach and in the water. We played by the rules and kept ours in the park. Either way, it was a lovely outing.

Luxe Kitchen & LoungeWOW!! We loved Luxe Kitchen! The patio is great, and definitely dog friendly. Our delightful server immediately came out with a huge bowl of water with ice cubes, and untangled our dogs leash at least twice while we were there. (It's a constant with Moxie). Even more, the food was AMAZING! We got crab cakes and meat balls and some Brussels sprouts, topped off with a basket of beignets with 3 different sauces for dessert! OMG!! Get them. Worth every calorie! The service was outstanding and always grateful to find a place we can share with our four legged friends. 5 Stars from Donna & Jim and 8 paws up from Moxie and Tonks.
8 Paws Up - Dog Friendly and Delicious
Seawitch Cafe and Tiki BarSo happy to find the dog-friendly Seawitch Cafe! Moxie and Tonks were welcome at a table in the great open air space, and our service Sammy brought them a bowl of water immediately. For us humans, the food was delicious! Highly recommend the crab dip and homemade chips appetizer. AMAZING! We also both had the shrimp basket which was scrumptious! The beach is open to leashed dogs after 5, so we were able to drive right across the street and take the pooches on a little beach stroll. All in all a great, dog-friendly experience.
Eight Paws Up!
Switzerland CafeWe love the Little Switzerland Cafe! The food is delicious and the owners are true dog lovers. There are only 4 outdoor tables so it's best to arrive during off hours or be prepared to wait. Having said that, we only waiting 10 minutes on a busy Sunday afternoon. They've got a new menu JUST for DOGS! Our dogs, who normally don't get table scraps, were surprised and delighted with their fresh pieces of turkey and two huge mugs full of water. As far as they are concerned, it's the best restaurant they've ever been too - and our food was delicious as well. Fast and friendly service and sweet little area off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Moxie and Tonks give it eight paws up!
Delicious Burgers and Pet Friendly
Black Jack's Pub and GrillHad lunch at Black Jack's Pub & Grill this afternoon and it was great. Outdoor seating with a nice view of the main street downtown. My husband said his burger was delicious and I enjoyed the gyro. Moxie and Tonks (our two Shih Tzus) were very welcome and they even brought out a bowl of water for them. 5 Bones from both Moxie and Tonks.
Lovely place to hike with your pooch!
Mount Jefferson State Natural AreaBeautiful park with many great trails. We walked the Summit Trail up hill to the Rhododendron Trail and walked the loop. Moxie and Tonks loved it! Plenty of picnic areas and beautiful overlooks. While we were there in May, 2021 the restrooms were still closed which was a little inconvenient - hopefully they will open soon.
Great outing for the whole pack
Sugar Hollow ParkThis is a lovely park that has something for everyone. Sporting fields, frisbee golf, hiking trails, picnic areas, and camping. We took the dogs on a little boardwalk hike in the wetlands area where we enjoyed spotting a blue heron. There are supposedly snapping turtles as well, but we did not see them. The picnic area is gorgeous with plenty of tables. We chose one overlooking the creek and the dogs enjoyed people watching while we had our lunch. Lots of other hiking trails and fun for people and pooches alike. Moxie and Tonks give it four paws up.
