Great but no off leash areas
Mount Trashmore ParkWe frequent this spot since its close to home and a good walk/run around the pond. There are geese and duck families in the spring and summer and a large hill to run up and down on. Many families come here with small children and dogs as there are two playgrounds and a skate park. On more then a few occations people would attempt to pet my shy sheltie. With so much going on, I use the opportunities to practice my leash training and socializing with people. Though the interactions can be turned into a learning experience, people forget their manners. There isnt a lot of trees and the trail is concrete so ticks are not really a problem. There are two public bathrooms, drinking fountains, and rental sites for bbq and parties. I rate it a 4 due to lack of off leash time otherwise its great for the family.
All around great
Dismal Swamp State ParkBeen looking for a place to bring doggo on an adventure without blowing my wallet and this was just the ticket. Staff was friendly and helpful. Had no problem with our pooch in a rental kayak and recommeded certain trails to hike after. Of course leash laws still exist and she wasnt allowed inside the visiter center to rent said kayak which makes sense with the taxidermy by the door. Plenty of picnic tables to eat at. Indoor bathroom for visiters and one at the rest stop if your pooch cant leave your side. Only complant were mosqitos on said trails which were expected but none on the water oddly enough. Rentals were 5 dollars a kayak.
