Great Location. Very Dog Friendly

Location, Location, Location
Kimpton Lighthouse Hotel an IHG HotelLocated within view of two iconic landmarks — Key West Lighthouse and Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum — Kimpton Lighthouse Hotel is a group of structures built in the mid-1800s. At one time it was known as the Lighthouse Court Hotel. Kimpton purchased the property three years ago and renovated the 45 guest rooms. Most rooms are very small and the ones with patios even smaller. Our room had space for a King size bed, small desk and chair, nightstands, a refrigerator and bench. There wasn’t room for a comfy reading chair or a dresser so we could unpack our clothes. The bathroom was also very nicely renovated but the tiny sink was only about 6-7 inches deep making brushing your teeth difficult. The pool was very nice but with room for only 8 lounge chairs we couldn’t access it on our first day. Isabel’s is a fun poolside bar and also where you can get your included continental breakfast. Duval Street one block away is where we frequented for delicious meals and easy shopping. We took advantage of the complimentary bicycles to get around. The location alone warrants five stars but I subtracted one for the tiny room and the fact that the wall AC cycles on and off all day and night.

Great Oceanside Resort with Fun Bar
Glunz Ocean Beach Hotel & ResortLocated on beautiful Key Colony Beach, this resort was a nice overnight stop with our dog en route to Key West. Elizabeth at check-in was very welcoming and helpful. Havana Jacks is an upbeat bar and restaurant on the property with good food and fun bands nightly. Dogs are welcome at the restaurant, pools and beach if leashed. The five dog friendly Havana villas are in an older, non-renovated part of the property. While clean, they could use a nice upgrade of the beds, decor, bathroom and couch. They have a kitchenette/living room separate from the bedroom. While they don’t look out on the ocean like many of the rooms in the main building, they do have access to a patio/barbecue area. The televisions are quite small, old and are not high definition (a disappointment for the football game we wanted to watch in bed). Overall we enjoyed the property, the beach views and our visit. I would give the location a “five” and had to subtract for the condition of our older dog friendly suite!
