Great patio for dogs
Black Bear TavernFriendly staff is always ready with pets and a biscuit (and water bowl if needed). My dog loves all of the staff and owners here, and us humans love the food and casual atmosphere. Cannot recommend enough!
Decent food, not always decent to dogs
Tattooed MooseStopped on the way back from a great morning at Kiawah Beachwalker Park, food and service were ok. Was excited to have a live band, however a newly arrived dog walked up to our table and the new dog and ours had a brief growl off—keep in mind my dog was on a less than 2’ lead lying under our table (and literally on one of my feet). We were asked to pack up the meal or put the dog in the car while we finished (really, put the dog in a car on an 80 degree, sunny afternoon?!?), however the new arrivals were not asked to leave.
Also asked for water for the dog when arriving, never came (fortunately we travel with a spare bowl and just gave him my water). Did see the dog a few tables over get a bowl. Can’t recommend for any level of excited dog-keep in mind my dog had no issues with the dog seated two tables away, or the dozens of other dogs at the beach, however none of them encroached on him while lying under our table.
Great beach day
Kiawah Beachwalker ParkRead all about the leash issues and local rules in advance, didn’t have a lick of trouble (since our young, over excited rescue is always on a leash outside of dog parks/our yard as is). Most other dogs were leashes, a couple of extremely well behaved golden retrievers were off leash but stayed right with their people and bothered no one. Less shells to discover than IOP, but much less crowded and nicer sand. Is a further trip to any restaurants/amenities, but they do have a snack bar and nice restrooms. All in all our favorite in the area so far and no issues with beach patrol (while we saw a few times in the back of the beach).
Didn’t make it to food
This Little PiggyWas really excited for some BBQ with the dog and kiddo on a beautiful May evening. Staff outside offered the dog a bone before we were even seated, and waitress did the same and brought him a bowl of water, but shortly after, got to watch the male owner physically intimidate a young female employee directly in front of us on the patio (which is also the main dining entrance). Personally felt compelled enough to try and address it with the owner (only knew it was him as I had checked out their website before we went), who denied this and was extremely defensive. My 9 year old felt exceptionally uncomfortable and we left before our food showed. The other staff looked equally uncomfortable. All in all a really bad taste for a business, regardless of what the employee may be accused of.
