Great, long, easy and lovely long walk.

Veterans Parkway

This is a nice, long, easy, wide, well shaded path through the middle of the “tree section” in Hermosa Beach’s and Manhattan Beach’s residential communities. If you’re looking for a hike in the mountains, this isn’t it. if, however, you want a good long walk (approx 3.5 miles one way) with a lot of foliage, water fountains, benches and trash cans and where you don’t have to walk on pavement - this is perfect. it is flanked by a street on either side, but traffic is light and quiet. You have to cross several streets during the walk, but there are cross walks and stop signs at each (with a couple of traffic lights too).

Good, somewhat steep, straightforward 3 mile hike/walk.

Getty View Park

This is a wide, unpaved trail with plants and foliage on either side for your pooch to sniff and explore. There is free street parking at the beginning of the trail. It’s basically a steep dirt fire-road at the top of a neighborhood that goes up for 1.5 miles. You then turn around to go back the same way for another 1.5 miles and therefore, it’s a 3-mile walk. There are good views on either side - the Getty Museum landscape across the 405 Fwy on the west and canyon with some big homes in Bel-Air on the east. Why only 4 bones out of 5? There is no shade at all and unless your dog is tremendously obedient and well behaved you can’t even think about letting him/her off-leash because the drop-off on either side is too dangerous.
