Dog-Unfriendly and Filthy

Econo Lodge Madison

The only dog friendly aspect of this place is that they allow dogs (for a fee). The "lodge" is sandwiched between adjacent businesses and highway, wrapped in concrete with a short stretch of steep hillside as dog walk area. Then there is the issue of the maintenance of the property. The stairwells and hallways looked like they hosted drug parties. Piles of trash and the dirtiest carpet I have ever seen in any setting. Creepiest feel that made you regret to have to touch a door knob. Even our tender-hearted poodle refused to walk there! How friendly is that! I wiped down every surface and touchable surface in our room with sanitizing wipes and was horrified at what was left on the surfaces. In my opinion this property, in this condition, would not be an acceptable choice at any price. I hope the management sees this review and takes it to heart. It couldn't cost that much to make the place much better. I understand that staffing issues during a pandemic are difficult. I want to be more charitable about this review but if you are going to rent a room at quite a premium price (~$200/nt) then I believe it is fair as a traveler to expect that you have found a way to have held up your side of the transaction. Until someone reviews it to have been fixed, I would stay away.
