Go to Woodward Dog Park

Basin AH1 Dog Park

Not really sure why this place has such high reviews... There were never any other dogs when we went to Basin in the middle of the day and ended up going to Woodward most days. Most of the dogs here don’t even play with other dogs. They just follow around or play with their owners, which kind of defeats the point. We take our dogs out to dog parks to socialize them, we can play with them at home or let them run around the backyard for exercise.

Best park in the area, by far!

NewBark Dog Park

We stayed in Hayward for about a week and a half and tried out several dog parks and trails. This was easily the cleanest, friendliest, largest fenced dog park in the area, with ample and probably the best seating for humans I’ve seen at ANY dog park, and the only one in the East Bay we came back to repeatedly. (We also love Fort Funston, an off-leash beach in the SF area, but we didn’t want to pay a toll daily.) There are tables and benches everywhere, grass, paved, and dirt areas for dogs to run and explore, water, poop bags, and trash cans provided. There are also bathrooms close by. The only issue is that there weren’t always other dogs to play with and/or owners would leave after a short time. The last time we went, there were about 8 dogs when we went in, but we were the only ones left 15-20 minutes later. Other times there was only one other dog/owner in there with us. This is definitely a park where you should bring toys or balls for your dogs.

Our favorite fenced dog park in the area

Los Gatos Creek County Park

We have 2 huskies and they love it here! The big dog area is large, spacious, and clean, with lots of turf to wrestle, run, and fetch on and trees and woodsy areas where our dogs could explore and go potty. There is cold, fresh water for dogs and people, and the drinking fountain has a little bowl at the dogs’ level that self-drains when not in use for safety and hygiene. This was a wonderful place to socialize our 4-month-old puppy after all her shots and expose her to other dogs, and our 2-and-a-half-year-old husky always had plenty of other dogs to play with, no matter the time of day. Other dog owners are very friendly and attentive as well, and we’ve loved talking to them! There’s benches for people (vs. chairs that are dirty and falling apart at some other dog parks) and bathrooms a short walk away, both of which we found convenient. We have a Santa Clara County parks pass and never had to pay for parking. I recommend it if you plan on going to the dog park regularly. Note that the park is currently closed for repairs, from October 11-early December 2022, and plan accordingly.
