Perfect Location and Dog Friendly Too!
Newton Fork RanchWe used Newton Fork Ranch as a home base for 7 nights of a 14 day road trip with our dog, Willow. During that time, we explored most of the pet friendly sites in western South Dakota. We could not have found a better place for us. The owner and property manager were both welcoming and helpful with suggestions. The cabin itself was well appointed and had everything we needed including a mid-week towel exchange. We stayed in the Meadow Song Cabin which sits at the back of the ranch backing up to a wooded area and facing a meadow in the center of the ranch. The scenery was lovely and We frequently had deer guests and one morning even saw a prairie dog as we enjoyed coffee on our deck.
The only item of note is that the stairs to the loft area where we slept are not for the faint of heart. We ultimately carried Willow up the stairs and blocked off the entry with her crate at night so she wouldn’t try to navigate them alone. It was an easy accommodation though and they have even installed a flashlight at the top of the stairs for coming down in the dark so it was totally workable. We would definitely return to Newton Fork Ranch and we’re certainly glad it served as the home base for our first trip to South Dakota.
