Dog-friendly, nice selections, well-stocked!

Homestead Gardens

I should have visited a long time ago. I’ve been to a few other nurseries and big brand garden supply stores and this was the best so far. They have a large selection of gardening needs and plants that I have not been able to find elsewhere and prices were not too bad. I got there early. All of the staff were very friendly and stopped to talk and asked to pet my dog. One man helped me find an alternative to an item I was searching for but they were out. This place was huge and my dog really enjoyed walking around and sniffing. they even have a nice pet supply section there, in case you need something for your dog too. I am definitely returning soon…with my dog. Being able to visit together made shopping even better.

Great place for socializing and walking your dog!

National Mall

We had a wonderful time walking the National Mall. I have a puppy (fully vaccinated) and she got to experience so many sights, sounds, and people all in one place - planes, ducks/birds, emergency vehicles, tour buses, motorcycles, people from all backgrounds, kids (in strollers), skateboarders…and the list goes on. it was hot, so I’d suggest bringing lots of water. There are plenty of shaded areas to stop and rest and even a refreshment stop nearby. You’ll do a lot of walking though. and people will want to pet your dog and to talk. Aside from the last bit, we had an amazing time.

Welcoming and accommodating

Hampton Inn Virginia Beach Oceanfront North

I had originally wanted to book at Hilton, a sister hotel, but they had a weight maximum. The very friendly booking associate with Hilton helped me to find this location and called the hotel to confirm the “pet friendly” details before booking. Everything went so smoothly and better our stay was great. Pets are welcome everywhere inside the hotel except the dining area and indoor pool. We had an oceanfront room just outside the boardwalk with plenty nearby. There is a small area behind the hotel with a shaded tree perfect for potty breaks (be responsible and pick up after your pet…trash cans are a few steps away on the boardwalk). Absolutely everyone was friendly and welcoming (including other hotel guests).

My puppy had the best experience getting to socialize on the beach, the nearby community, and inside the hotel (almost everyone asked for a petting session and wanted to stop and talk). The only con was that I took my puppy out for a before bedtime potty break on the way out/in we were constantly stopped by people wanting to greet her and she was too excited to get to sleep right away when we returned. oh, well, that’s what vacations are for. I will definitely be back and this would be a first choice hotel. If you go, be sure to check local guidelines for dogs on the beach/boardwalk. They change depending on the time of the year.

Check it out!

Nautilus Restaurant

The food was great (especially the shrimp tacos). We ordered pick up. Dogs can join you on the outside patio. This place was close to our hotel.
