We used to take our dog to this beach until she got attacked by another dog! I'm glad she survived that giant wound!!

Don’t waste your time looking for a better beach for you and your well behaved dog. This is it! Lots of friendly locals with their dogs, off leash and on. Super fun and beautiful. People seem to be very mindful of picking up after their dogs. Our dogs were in heaven there. We stayed in Newport Beach and Culver City but still drove here several times and it was worth the drive! We will just stay in the Huntington Beach area the next time we visit with the dogs. It’s the perfect doggie and pet owner beach around. That said, if your dog is timid and is only a leashed dog, this will be a scary place for them. Better to keep them on the walking path, as dogs will run up to them to say hi while on the beach.
The only word of caution is there are lots and lots of squirrels along the walking path and parking areas, so hold tight if you have a chaser. - DesiraeMar 8, 2024Perfect beach
We’ve never encountered a problem here at HB dog beach! The pups always have fun. There is minimal parking in two different lots so depending on the day of the week and time of year, it’s hard to find parking. Best advice- arrive early to find a spot!
- KELLYJul 22, 2023Great beach for dogs
We took our dog to visit the beach twice while we were in the area visiting. He got some much needed runs and playing with other dogs.
Every person and dog we encountered were friendly. It's very much like a dog park where you're bound to run into a few people and dogs who just want to enjoy the beach and don't necessarily want to play or maybe that's you and your pup but there's plenty of space to spread out.
We were new to the beach and it was hot so my pup drank a lot of the ocean water and paid for it by throwing up and having diarrhea for two days so I recommend making sure your dog is fully hydrated before taking them down to the water so they aren't tempted to drink the ocean water.
Parking can be a challenge but we were able to find a spot after touring a few of the lots. It costs about $4 per hour to park.

My two dogs love this beach and so do we. It is so fun to see the dogs running into to ocean and getting hit with waves, tails wagging, tongues hanging, legs running. We may actually plan our next vacation around the park.
- VeronicaJul 2, 2023Great beach
Loved the size, parking and that its is off-leash. A lot of really great pet owners.
- JoyJun 22, 2023Great location!
My dog loves coming to the dog beach! It’s always kept clean and there’s so many happy dogs running around.

This is a big beach with lots of room for your dog to run and play. I did learn though that not everyone that bring a their dogs to the beach have dog friendly dogs. Which is fine because they walk with them in the leash. I need to teach my puppy not to run up to every dog it sees if I let it off the leash.
- AmberApr 16, 2022Great day!
Super fun beach for everyone! All the dogs were well behaved and most people picked up after them.

the Huntington dog beach is truly the 8th wonder of the world . i love coming here with my pooches . they also lose their minds when they go to the beach and have so much fun !
if you have an aggressive dog then the dog beach is not for you . we go everyday and have never run into an aggressive dog. also be aware of coyotes depending on time of the year . we have been a few times early in the am and run into coyotes .

We absolutely LOVED this beach!! We were very nervous letting our dogs off their leashes to have free roam near other dogs and people, but the dogs as well as their owners were so amazing! They were all so friendly, shared their toys, and picked up after their pups! Also the beach was clean and beautiful!

Off leash doggy heaven
- RickJul 25, 2019Best in Southern California
Best designated OFF leash dog beach anywhere near Los Angeles. Owners are responsible, poop is cleared away, and the beach is long enough for a good hour walk. Parking is trouble on the weekends, we try to get there before 10:0 am. Seems to me a lot of the surfers start packing up about then and spots are opened. Two metered lots and bathrooms. If you have the gumption go the the south end and donate to the Huntington Dog Beach volunteers as they do a great service for the beach.
- JohnJul 3, 2019five out of five spots given
Super nice beach. Clean and other dog owners seem to be mindful of their pets. Equipped with paid parking lot (which can be full a lot) or ample street parking. My Dalmatian (Finnegan) give this beach 5 out of 5 Spots!
- EllenDec 16, 2018Amazing, Clean Place for Dogs
Yesterday was our first visit to Huntington Dog Beach--first to a dog beach ever, in fact! It was amazing! Lots of friendly dogs and people, beautiful clean beach, places to get rid of dog poop. Parking can be paid for with cash or card, which is handy.

I'm from Kansas initially, so I wasn't sure if my dog, or even I, would enjoy the dog beach. But during his first visit, I could tell how happy he was! He doesn't play with the prefer dogs very much, but he loves to check out all the people and walk with me up and down the beach. It's a long stretch! Always very clean. The only downsides I'd say is that parking can be difficult to find on the weekends after about 10am, and the beach entries aren't the easiest to maneuver physically for some people. But I literally take my dog here about every other weekend now!

Huge beach for dogs! We visited with our 6 month old Dane who has never seen the ocean before. Couldn't have picked a better spot! The beach is extraordinarily clean, everyone seems to be responsible and pick up after their dogs. We had our pup on leash since it was her first visit and she seemed to do very well, everyone is mindful of their dogs. Pups and their people were all having a blast. We will be back!

When I brought my family out to SoCal to see my old stomping grounds, we brought our dog. He isn't too fond of water but he loved the sand and being able to run & play. We're planning on coming back. When we do, we'll be back at Huntington Dog Beach.

We take our American Eskimo to California with us when we travel & we always stop at Huntington Dog Beach. Lucky loves meeting all the other pups & playing in the sand. Owners & dogs have always been super friendly. A must visit!!

Took our boy dog at this beach last 4th of july, 2012 and has a great time. It was his first time at a beach. I love the beach and it was like a dream come true to have my best friend to enjoy it with me.lol. The dogs are able to run away off leash and play with others. I can't wait to go back again soon.
