  Not Worth the Walk

  We walked well over 30 minutes to get here (not well signposted!) only to discover that a single paid dog-walker had just unleashed 10-15 dogs who were running all over the place. It didn't seem to bother the “local” dogs, but for my <20 lb. pup it seemed a bit too much. I wish they had separate runs based on dog weight (keep the smalls with the smalls)!

  Nice Running Space!

  Our puppy was patiently riding in the car for four hours and, when she saw this park, flew into rocket mode to get her energy out. She slept like a rock. The Park was a little sandy and muddy in spots, but after a walk down the pier adjacent to the park, she was clean again. Great conversation with the visitors and locals. Great restaurants within walking distance.

  Fun at the dog park!

  My GSD had fun running around and playing with a few other dogs. There was nice shade in the morning and plenty of room to be socially distanced. We will be back!

  Just Enough

  The dog park was filled with locals when we went, but they were mostly welcoming, allowing us to join their circle of chairs. The park is divided into any size and small dogs, the few times we went the small dog side was usually filled, while the other size only had a few in there.
  Across the street there is a beach between the pier and the Mortello Tower where dogs are allowed on leash. The shore is lined with large rocks and a stair case leading into the water. Although signs on the beach cautioned anyone or animals getting into the water because the area was known to have man o war jelly fish in the area.

  Great Place - but be careful

  We really like this place as it gives our two labs the chance to really run free without leashes. Most people are really friendly and responsible with their dogs. We did get warned about the Bufo frogs/toads and how toxic they were. Apparently they hang out in the tree line in the back of the park so best to keep dogs out of that area. Also, like the other reviewer, we had a run in with the Doberman. Unlike our dog park at home which is a paid membership so you can file complaints against aggressive dogs/ irresponsible owners, there's not much you can do but leave. We've only really had to do that once in two months. We've met lots of nice dogs and people there - and several dog walkers/ trainers who gave us lots of tips. Have fun!

  Great People to chat with in Small Dogs side

  Just like it says this park has large and small dog areas and water available. It's decent, not very clean but acceptable. The people at the small dog area were so nice, mostly locals but visitors are welcome to sit in the chairs already in the area and chat away while the dogs play or hide under the chairs for some shade. About 7 dogs in the small area when we got there. In large area was a big lab mix and a big Doberman. Didn't see any problems.
  There was a warning on the gate that kennel cough was going around and not to enter if you dog had it or any symptoms.

  Beware

  Having just come back from the vet with $150.00 bill for a gaping wound, 5 staples to close it and medication, after my dog received "nip" from a slobbering, ill behaved Rottweiler, i would give this park one bone with the exception that on certain days its okay.
  Basically, too many of the owners have unruly and aggressive dogs. I'm tired of owners saying "they're just playing". I know the difference between agessive and bullying to play.
  Way too many pitbulls, dog walkers bringing 8 or more dogs at a time and sitting on tables chatting and texting instead of minding their dogs. When I took my dog to the vets today after receiving a nip from a rotweiller that ended in 6 staples to close the wound and the owner of the Rotweiller telling me it was "just a flesh wound", i'll not be going back unless there are only a couple dogs there with responsible owners.
  It's a free for all, with the owners taking too much of the laid back (read neglectful) owners telling me to "relax" while their dogs take chunks out of my babys skin. Beware. The vet and her workers told me they get "tons" of dogs at the clinic from fights at that park. Out of towners beware. The people who live here and who are in the know do not take their dogs there. Aggessive dogs and breeds and neglectful owners adds up to a stressful time at the only off leash park in Key
  West. If you love your baby, avoid.

  sufficient dog park

  although there are no bells and whistles, key west dog park is a great place for you and your furry friend(s) to run, play, relax and socialize. divided into 2 separate fenced in areas(large and small) with multiple water bowls to quench the pooches thirst. there are also water fountains for human consumption, but they are usually soiled with bird feces, so I recommend you bring your own beverage and enjoy the comfort of the many picnic tables and pavilions. have fun! there is a portion of higgs beach across the street that you are welcome to bring your leashed dog and the water is great for a dip/stroll/swim during low tide.

  Not a Beach at all!

  Higgs dog park is a great park, but its not a beach. Its not even on water. Across the street is the AIDs memorial pier to walk on but the ONLY reach beach in key west is the one next to louies ackyard. This park is seperated big dogs and and little dogs, has water fountains. shaded spots and sunny ones and is pretty well maintained. Be aware of others though there was a bog bite incident there recently and the man and his dog ran off leaving the gentleman bit not knowing if the vicious one was even vaccinated.
