Reviews
Visitors generally find Terrapin Nature Park to be a dog-friendly beach with a nice, clean environment. Some travelers note issues with overcrowding, bacteria in the water, and ticks, but overall it seems to be a popular spot for pet owners to enjoy the outdoors with their furry companions.

This beach is dog friendly. It is great to bring your pet and he can swim. We have to keep him on leash on the beach and in the water, but it was easy to do. Some guests brought extended leashes for this. The beach is sandy and there are nice trees nearby for shade. It is about a 10-12 minute walk from the parking lot to the beach so bring water for your doggie. The path to the beach is paved part of the way, so with the hot sun we tried to walk on the edge near the grass. It is a lovely beach and our dog had a great day in the water. We could swim with our dog which was pure heaven.

Easy to access and very dog friendly. Saw lots of dogs on our hike. Well maintained trail and beach access for the pups if you want. Only saw two porta pottys near the parking area that were both tipped sideways so not sure about other bathroom options. May want to go before you get there!

Clean with plenty of trash cans, but it is carry in/carry out. The dog beach is at the south end of the beach, so it can be a bit of a hike, but my dogs enjoy it. The dog parents that come here are very responsible and respectful of each other, which is always great. On weekends it can get pretty crowded with people, so the dog beach can get overrun with people fishing. It's a nice, quiet beach for the most part and my dogs love it!

I am a newbie pet owner and wanted to have a nice day out with Fido. The main feature of our trip was taking a bike ride using our new pet bike trailer. We took the Cross Island Trail but before doing so, rode around the park. The only bad part is that the trail is like a crushed gravel and turns to sand near the beach. You have to get off and walk your bike a few hundred yards to where it continues again. This was very hard to do with a trailer in tow.
After our venture and lunch, we returned to the beach to play and rest until our return home. Thankfully having the bike, we ventured to a further point that was a bit less crowded than the first few entry points. My theory is that most people walking have covered quite a bit of ground and are not likely to want to haul their stuff further along than they have to. It was a perfectly beautiful day. There are rocks and branches strewn about but that is the point of nature and it is not a meticulous beach but perfect and much closer to home. It is also free! But I would be reluctant to come back if just on foot without having a wagon or other means to schlep your stuff.
A fun and memorable day!

We have been taking our dog there for the last year or two. This year he got an eye infection from the bacteria in the water :( I reported it and they said they would have the water checked. Too bad, we love it there.

Today, we spent 5 hours at the beach with our two dogs. The average review and several negative comments, almost deterred us from going here, but we had a blast. The beach is very well maintained, with nice sand, plenty of trash bins and plenty of space for parking in the complex and on the street outside of it.
The dog beach is at the end of the long beach. Go all the way down the trail till you get to a small bridge over a creek. The beach is between few dark stones on one side, and dark concrete blocks on the other, marking the start of the fishing section. If you want to use your phone map you can enter these coordinates 38.9894679, -76.330131. Enjoy :)

We had fun with our Newfie! Beautiful day! He had the whole beach to himself since we got there early!
- JessicaMore than a year agoReally dirty
Beach was littered with garbage, including hypodermic needles. The walking trails are nice though. Parking lot can get full.
