Dogs are not allowed in the elevator but we enjoyed the 1/5 mile hike up to the top of the mountain. It was a bit of a stretch for our puppy’s short legs but we took it slow and enjoyed the experience. Lots of other dogs there as well- a good morning adventure for us.
Beautiful drive up and plenty of places to stop and pull off for scenic views (or the dog to go potty). Once up there, if your dog is athletic it should be fine. Humans, be prepared for the stone steps. Lots leading up to the summit. If you don’t go to the summit, the views are still amazing up by the castle. So many dogs! Grab lunch with your pooch at the food truck and take pics. I carried my blind dog up some of the stairs but he did some on his own! He slept in the car on the ride up/down. Great place to hang with your pup. Dogs are not allowed on the elevator to the summit.
We have two whippets so they made this hike look easy. The other review is very accurate. It’s a bit challenging of a hike up but it’s worth an adventure!
A toll road takes you up to the top of the mountain. One car/driver and one passenger was $20. Once at the top, you drive around a small castle like structure then park in the parking areas. There is a staircase up to the summit but be aware parts of this stairway is traversing slippery rock faces so make sure you have good footwear. Your dog will have to make some good jumps up and down and be comfortable with rock faces. Bring water for both you and the dog. Once at the top there are beautiful views and telescopes so bring quarters. This place was very dog friendly and we met several other dogs making the hike to the top.

Ask at the tollgate (before you pay for the drive up) if the stairs are open. If not, then the doggies gotta stay in the car because they are not allowed in the elevator.
