Big Talbot Island State Park

Big Talbot Island State Park is a pet-friendly island off the northeast coast of Florida. There's a huge variety of scenery to take in on the island and the best way to do this is on one of the many trails, such as the Blackrock Trail that will lead you and your pooch to the shoreline, the Big Pine Trail that will take your troop to the marshland, or Old Kings Highway and Jones Cut that takes in the beauty of the maritime forest. When you get tired of walkies, you can relax at one of the picnic areas on the island. There are lots of other hiking trails to enjoy on the island, as well as great fishing opportunities off the coast. Due to the carefully balanced eco-system and variety in wildlife, there may be some areas of the island that are off limits for Fido, so be sure to check with the park staff before your trip. The fee for entry onto Big Talbot Island State Park is $3 per vehicle. The park is open from 8am until sunset, but the boat ramp is open 24 hours a day. Visit Website

Will never take my dogs again!

We hiked out to black rock beach and my dog was covered in ticks! I must of pulled 30 ticks off of him…. Never again, the park needs to manage this issue!

    HORRIBLE Tick Problem

I'm relatively new to Jacksonville and hear a lot about Big & Little Talbot Island. We took our pup here the other day and barely made it 300yds before we found 15-20 ticks on our dog. We immediately got rid of the ticks and ran back to our car to leave. There are no notices and we talked to the park rangers before entering the park. All they told us was that dogs are not allowed on the beaches. Before heading home, we stopped back by the ranger station and let them know and they said "yeah, it's bad out here right now." I understand it being "at your own risk" but letting people know would be helpful.

    Little Talbot Island Camping Area

While you cannot take your pet pal to the beach at the main park, your friend can go all over the camping area. There is a nature trail, lots of areas to play, and you can take your pet down to the dock area to play in the water. The camping is beautiful, shady, and well set up.
