Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park

Dogs are welcome at Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park, 4,000 acres that is home to a number of rare and endangered plants. You can bring Fido with you to enjoy the Tarkiln Bayou Trail, meandering through prairie, cypress and titi forests, and leading to a scenic view of the Bayou; and the Perdido Bay Trail, a more difficult 6.5 mile trail that leads to beaches and weaves through oaks and pines. Along the trails, you might be able to sneak a peek of some migratory birds, white tailed deer, raccoon, or bobcat. There are numerous benches and picnic tables around the park and along the trails to enjoy a spot of lunch with Spot the dog. The fee for entry into the park is $3 per vehicle or $2 for pedestrians. Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park is open every day of the week from 8am until sunset. Visit Website

    Nice Trail

We unfortunately came a little later in the day so it was a little warmer. We decided not to push our 3 babies too much and turned back half ways. I waited in the car with the fur babies as my husband and niece finished the walk. They say it was beautiful. Lots of people bring there dogs to this area and today 7/30/19 everyone turned back as they didn’t want the fur babies to overheat. Maybe next time I’m in Florida I will give it a try. They do have waste bags available at the entrance in case you forget yours.

    Beautiful Scenery

We went mid-day on a Sunday and it was lovely. Mostly shaded, just one mile on the short loop

Nice walk for you and your dog

Comfortable boardwalk to serene lake. Vegetation identifiers. No wildlife seen on our visit, but you never know--bear spray is advised.
