Olde Port Beach
Reviews
Visitors generally praise Olde Port Beach as an excellent off-leash dog beach with ample space, amenities, and well-behaved canine companions. They note that some visitors fail to clean up after their pets, though, which could detract from the overall experience.

- AudraApr 15, 2024Great dog beach!
Lots of dogs come here to play fetch in the water and meet on the sand. My dogs love it and we stay for hours. They have restrooms at the top off the road, doggie and human fountains, and a poop bag dispenser at the bottom of the ramp; grab them upon arrival. It is a long beach, but it's hemmed in by rocks on both ends so dogs can't go astray.

The location is a little small, but we were here on Labor Day, and it wasn’t super crowded. Lots of dogs and families, but every dog was well behaved, and the beach was very clean.

Really a gift — beach park for pets. An off leash location is only as good as the humans who use it. This is a great beach site for dogs and their owners to enjoy — and it could be perfect. To owners a reminder: Olde Port is provided and maintained for you and your dogs. Respect that fact and be responsible. On any given day many do not clean up — they just turn a blind eye and keep on strolling. It’s really not that difficult to watch/clean up. Forgot a bag or two? They have poop bag dispensers as you enter folks. If you expect a great experience you also have a responsibility to help maintain the environment you and Fido enjoy. Of course this applies to any dog park and there are always owners who care less and leave their mess. Olde Port could be the exception/perfection — so think it over and be responsible by helping to make the difference. Note: Olde Port is often confused with close by Avila Beach (which has specific off-leash hours). Olde Port is not limited. Such a shame to not do your part to make this the perfect place.

Plenty of room to spread out and not as heavily populated as Avila Beach. Since there are no dogs allowed on Fisherman's Beach and Avila Beach is limited to morning and evening, Olde Port Beach IS the place to bring your pup for an all day hang. If you are able to get there early enough, it is also a great place to watch the sunrise over Cal Poly pier.
- TammySep 3, 2022Dogs got really sick
We were there in August 2022. Had a great time but we were worried about brown bubbles in water. People reassured us that it was just algae but that night both of our dogs got really sick.

My dog would live here if she could. The stairs and ramp give easy access to the road, which made me a little nervous. If your dog is trustworthy and/or has excellent voice recall, you’ll love it here.

I’ve never seen dogs as happy as they are at this beach. They can run free, play in the ocean, dig in the sand, chase and play with other dogs. Most dogs we’ve encountered are well behaved but if one does become too aggressive the place is big enough that we can just move to another area. Poop bags are provided at 2 of the 3 entrances and there is usually adequate parking close by.
- MelFeb 21, 2022Fun dog beach!
This was a safe beach where everyone was comfortable letting their pups off leash to enjoy a day with the family!! Small, but plenty of room to find a spot and definitely just a beach for families/people with dogs. Don’t come if you don’t like dogs!!!
