We took our dog in his stroller on the ferry to our stay in Mackinac Island. we booked through a resort that included the tickets, and they were easy to get at the ticket window. Luggage transfer was simple, and we were able to park our stroller by the ferry entrance as the seating was on a lower level. Our dog had no issue on the ferry and it was a quick 15 minute ride to the island.

Shepler’s provided a great ferry experience for our family, including 6 yr old Goldendoodle, Riley. Riley sat under our seats the whole way. We rode up top and weren’t sure what she’d do with how windy it is up there, but she was fine! Staff was friendly and welcoming.

This was a great experience for our pup. We rode up top on the way there, and while it was definitely windy, this was our preferred method of travel. We had to ride down below on our return trip due to rain, and the crew were very accommodating, allowing my husband to stand in back with her, rather than being in the crowded cabin.

this is the perfect line for a pooch
they were great with our dog. - DeniseJul 14, 2022Awesome
We have a 95 pound doodle, and they were awesome with him. Also, there were 2-3 other dogs on the ferry each way.

This was a very comfortable ride and our lap dog was welcomed on board. Ample parking from St. Ignace.

Great experience! They were also very welcoming to our wary dog. We rode underneath on the way, be prepared for loud noise in the cabin. We rode up top on the way back and preferred that but be prepared for wind and some COLD water spray if you sit up there! Our dog did really well, better than we expected. I think due to the relaxed atmosphere and seeing other dogs on board!

We went the beginning of October and they were still busy but very pet friendly. if you have your own bikes, you can bring them. They have an upper level (completely exposed to the elements) and an interior cabin. We were on the upper level and loved the experience, so did our Pug.

There was bad weather when we first got to Mackinac, so we had to be inside and my dog (Casper) completely freaked out. His ears were back and he looked like he wanted to puke. He didn't, luckily. When we left a few days later, after a nice horse-and-buggie ride, there was nice weather and we went to the top. Casper was completely fine with it and actually looked like he enjoyed it.
In conclusion, I highly reccomend going to the top for a big dog. - Cdnrn2girlsMore than a year agoFerry Ride
Sat up top with our dog and enjoyed the ride and the breeze. Guests never even realized we had our big dog with us.
