West Virginia Penitentiary is pet-friendly. This gothic-style prison located in Moundsville operated as a prison from 1876 to 1995. Nowadays, there are no inmates but you can still take a tour of the buildings and grounds with your leashed pooch. The buildings are rumored to be haunted by previous inhabitants. You can find out more on a private paranormal ghost tour or ghost hunt. If you're a sceptic, they also offer a historical tour during daylight hours. Admission is $14 for adults and pups can enter for free. They operate tours from April 1 to December 1.
