We’ve taken our pup here a few times now and have had a good experience each time. Everyone seems respectful of cleaning up after their dogs. We set up a small beach tent to provide ourselves some shade, but you can walk back to the beach entrance for shaded areas as well.

Fort Fisher is dog friendly all year long. We found some shade and enjoyed a picnic with our girls off of the tour path. We then parked near the beach and made our way to the beach. Along the way our older girl Jade started favoring one of her feet. I thought it might have been the hot pavement or sand, but it was three sand spurs stuck between her toes and main pad. We think she got them from going in the beach grass area. They are difficult to remove so be careful. Besides that the beach was clean and the girls had fun dipping their toes in the water and trying out their life jackets. Dogs do need to be leashed and you need to pick up after your furry friend. Overall a great place to bring Fido!

My daring Kiara was tired after playing in the sand and meeting other dogs.

Went for the first time today and it was a great experience. Our dog first trip to the beach and she enjoyed every minute. No one bother you and the beach is extremely clean. Already started planing the next trip back.

my dog loves the beach, we have been twice now. I was told we needed to keep him on a leash, but they didn't say the length....so we had him tethered on a 20' lead so he could run and fetch and play in the surf, but a ranger came by and said dogs had to be on a 6' lead:( this is way to short for a dog to really run around and play. I can understand if your dog was bothering people to shorten the leash, but we were a good distance from people so our dog didn't bother anybody. His beach trip turned from running on a 20' lead and playing fetch in the surf awesome day, to just sitting on the beach and not playing much at all not so fun for a dog day:( Other than the short leash rule, the beach was nice.

We had a 3 1/2 month old pup with us and durin our time in Wilmington, NC we found a great pet friendly hotei, the Inn at Wilmington. We asked about a dog friendly beach and were told of Fort Fisher. It was a very nice beach and of course our pup drew lots of attention.
I got to teach her to swim and the people were all l so friendly( great socialization!) The only downfall for us and her was the walk over the asphalt street and parking lot then more hot wooden walkway and across scorching sand for quite a way to the cooler wet sand. And good thing we always bring our own waste bags when we travel with our dogs because we never found any there. - MichaelMore than a year agoLove this Beach
We took our dog Angus, and he had alot of fun. There were lots of others dogs on the beach and all were well behaved. We will definitely be going to this beach again.

Taking our dogs to many beaches up and down east coast one of our favorites. Make sure to bring water and shade and dog bags. A bit of a walk for these. Dogs are very welcome. Waves and coast ideal for smaller dogs to still get wet. Family beach lots of kids and family atmosphere. OPEN ALL YEAR ANY TIME for dogs.

My JRT loves this beach, digging holes, swimming, barking at the waves and seagulls. There's been 5 - 10 dogs every time we have been. Parking is close to the beach and with the Fort near by there are lots of trails to explore. We did run into a few people who didn't seem to know it this beach was dog friendly when obviously weren't but this is still our favorite beach.
