Bayfront Park Mill Valley Dog Park
- SarahJan. 31, 2022If your dogs are feeling fancy...
We happened to be in the area so stopped by Mill Valley Dog Park to let our pup run for a bit, and I'm so glad we did! It wasn't a fenced-in park, but the grassy area was large and flat enough to easily keep an eye on our dog while enjoying a beautiful sunset. It was very quiet when we went (maybe 3-4 dogs), but it's possible we went during "off hours". Either way, beautiful spot by the water with plenty of room for your dog to blow off some steam.

This is by far the best dog park in Marin County (perhaps anywhere)! It has a lovely location on the Bay with grassy expanses for the dogs to run and play together more naturally than they can in the small, dirt enclosures of most dog parks. I have found that with fenced in dog parks such as the one at the Civic Center you tend to get multiple dogs brought in by dog walkers who rely on the barriers. Those tight spaces seem to promote a dog pack mentality. While this park isn't completely fenced in, it is expansive and far from traffic so Fido can't get into too much trouble. It has been a great place to practice recall and agility lessons with our puppy. The other dog owners have been very friendly and conscientious the five or six times we have been there.

We were staying at the Aqua Hotel and arrived a little early. Having spent a few hours in the car, our yellow lab was in need of some exercise before checking in. We grabbed some lunch in Mill Valley and stumbled across this park on our way back to the hotel. The dog park area is very large with lots of open space for your dog to chase a ball, etc. But be warned, it is not fenced along the footpath and water side, so your dog needs to be well trained. Fortunately, are dog is well-behaved off leash, so it was no problem and she had a blast. An added bonus - towards one end there is some agility equipment. We have done a little agility training with our lab, so she had fun running through tunnels, jumping through tires, etc. A great park!
