Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Certain sections of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park are dog-friendly. Leashed dogs are welcome to explore paved roads, developed campgrounds, and day use areas. They are not allowed on any State Park trails. Many of the campsites are located along the Big Sur River. There is a $10 day use fee, per car. Atop the northern crest of the Santa Lucia Mountains, the trails encounter open oak savannas and spectacular vistas. Along the way, you will travel through maple-filled canyons, dense oak woodlands, and thick stands of chaparral. There are trails for nearly all abilities, from beginner to advanced hiker.
