Pet Friendly Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to over 800 miles of hiking trails, but take note that dogs are NOT allowed on most of them. They are welcome on the Gatlinburg Trail (a 1.9 mile hike from the Sugarland Visitor Center to the outskirts of Gatlinburg, TN) and the Oconaluftee River Trail (a 1.5 mile hike from the Oconaluftee Visitor Center to the outskirts of Cherokee, NC). Dogs are also allowed in the campgrounds, picnic areas, and along roads, but must be kept on a leash at all times. As with most parks, your pets should be well-behaved and you should always clean up after them.
Pet Friendly The Village Shops
Located next to the famous Pancake Pantry and Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen, The Village is a collection of 27 unique specialty stores in the heart of Gatlinburg, TN. The wooded outdoor areas around the shops are great for taking Fido for a stroll. Be sure to stop by the Simply Animals store to pick up a toy or treat for your pet. Dogs should remain leashed and under your control at all times while roaming through The Village.
Pet Friendly Waterrock Knob Trail
Waterrock Knob Trail is a difficult, 1.2 mile hike on the Blue Ridge Parkway that will take about 1 hour to complete with Fido. With the steep elevation on this trail you will want to be sure your dog can climb and maneuver over large rocks. Please note that dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
Pet Friendly Big Bear at Little Tennessee River Greenway
Nice dog park with separate areas for big and small dogs. Parking, playground, picnic shelter, and restrooms. Also a nice 4-mile sidewalk along the river to walk the dogs.
