Pet Friendly Clam Beach Off Leash Area
From October through February, dogs are allowed off-leash on the entire beach. The rest of the year, dogs are restricted to the waveslope.
Pet Friendly Hiller Park
This is a town park where dogs can run and play off leash. It has a large open field as well as paths through the woods which often end at beautiful ocean overlooks. Three of the paths end with stairs down to a small river that runs along the ocean beach, but the climb is pretty steep. The park is open year round and friendly dogs are welcome everywhere except the fenced in children's playground. There is also a paved bike/walk path where dogs are welcome on leash.
Pet Friendly Hammond
The Hammond is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in McKinleyville! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Hammond. Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has generously provided map data for this trail to Bring Fido for informational purposes only. Pet Friendly Azalea State Natural Reserve
Dogs must remain in the car park and on leash at Azalea State Natural Reserve. This reserve protects western azalea (Rhododendron occidentale). Each spring, a profusion of pink and white blossoms scents the air. You and Fido can enjoy the colors and scents at Azalea State Natural Reserve from sunrise to sunset every day of the week.
