Pets are allowed on Backbeat Tours' Memphis Walking Ghost Tour (dogs aren't allowed inside at the Ernestine & Hazel's stop), Historic Memphis Walking Tour, Beale Street Walking Tour, and Memphis Mojo Tour. If the bus isn't too crowded and other passengers don't object, well-mannered dogs or cats are welcome. Just keep your pet on a leash and in your control at all times. One option is the Shelby Farms Greenline, a 10.65-mile paved trail that connects Memphis and Cordova. For even more fun, visit The Outback, a 100-acre off-leash area complete with open fields, ponds, and unpaved trails. Please note that you are likely to find cyclists, hikers, horses, runners, anglers, and other off-leash dogs in this area.

In June 2010, the city of Memphis opened its first city-run dog park. Located at 2599 Avery (behind the Memphis City Schools Board of Education), the park features two fenced in dog areas -- one acre for dogs over 25 pounds and a separate half acre for smaller dogs. Biodegradable bags are provided for waste cleanup but there is no water service at the park. Dogs must have up to date vaccinations.

Opened in June 2012, Overton Bark is a dog park for Midtown Memphis and the surrounding area. This 1.3-acre enclosed dog park borders the Old Forest and the Rainbow Lake Playground. The area includes water fountains, obstacles, clean-up stations, and separate areas for large and small dogs. Rustic log benches provide a natural seating area for people to relax while their dogs socialize. Overton Bark is open from dawn to dusk each day.
