Monhegan Island trails About 12 miles of trails, often steep and strenuous, lead through wooded areas and over rocky ledges up to the highest ocean cliffs on the Maine coastline. Volunteers and experienced woodsmen work tirelessly to improve the trails but there will always be a slippery spot or a steep climb. Get a trail map at an Island shop before setting out with your leashed dog. Most of the Island is wild land, with woods and undergrowth so thick you can’t cut across from one trail to another without becoming lost. The trail map published by the Monhegan Associates, showing trails, their names, their numbers, and their difficulty, is reliable, cheap, and easily available. You can view it online but really should plan on purchasing one (for a nominal fee) to carry when you hike away from the Village. You’ll be charged boat fare for your dog and are expected to dispose of its waste as in a city. See Details

Willard Beach Willard Beach is a public beach less than 5 minutes from Portland. In the summer months, dogs can run off leash (under voice control) in the off-season, October 1 through April 30, from 6:00 am to 9:00 am. Between May 1 and September 30, dogs are not allowed on the beach except between the hours of 7:00 am and 9:00 am and 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Willard Beach is a great sandy beach with cold, but inviting water for swimmers. Dogs love to play and romp on this scenic beach! Dog owners are required to have a leash in hand at all times. Off-leash dogs must be kept within 100 feet and under voice control.
Pet waste must be bagged and properly disposed of in a trash receptacle or carried out of the park.
Entry into sand dune vegetation by dogs and/or people is unlawful and strictly prohibited.

Merrymeeting Dog Park The Merrymeeting Dog Park In Memory of Jake Horgan is a completely fenced 1.5 acre dog park with separate areas for small dogs and all dogs. Situated along the Androscoggin River Bicycle and Pedestrian Path, the park has beautiful views of the river and is open year round. It is maintained on a daily basis by the Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department groundskeepers. The park includes double-gated entries, benches, Dogipots, and signage. A water feature will be added in summer 2013. Parking is at the end of Water St. The dog park is 800 feet from the parking lot and is next to a public toilet facility. See Details
