Historic Tour of Wilmington 'Historic Tour of Wilmington' is a pet-friendly Airbnb Experience hosted by J.R. Take this 2.5 mile guided walking tour with Fido and learn about the history that shaped this Port City as well as the architectural beauty preserved in the historic homes. You will also talk about the decline and subsequent revitalization of the downtown area. The experience lasts 1.5 hours and can accommodate up to 8 guests ages 13 and up. Parents may also bring children under 2 years of age. Guests should be capable of walking 3 miles with intermittent rests. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Wilmington Dog Park at Empie Wilmington Dog Park at Empie is the first functional off-leash dog park in Wilmington. The park is incorporated into a 2-acre site of unused land within the confines of Empie Park. The park is completely fenced in with two play areas -- one for large dogs and another dog dogs under 20 pounds. There is also water, pet waste stations, and lots of shade. Abbey Nature Trail The 67-acre Abbey Nature Preserve has a 2.4-mile nature trail winding through woods and crossing over the mill pond. Once the original site of Poplar Grove's gristmill, the preserve is now part of the Coastal Land Trust and a wonderful escape from the city. Poplar Grove, dedicated to education, preservation and service to the community, maintains a busy schedule of activities throughout the year.
