Historic Tour of Wilmington 'Historic Tour of Wilmington' is a pet-friendly Airbnb Experience hosted by J.R. Take this 2.5 mile guided walking tour with Fido and learn about the history that shaped this Port City as well as the architectural beauty preserved in the historic homes. You will also talk about the decline and subsequent revitalization of the downtown area. The experience lasts 1.5 hours and can accommodate up to 8 guests ages 13 and up. Parents may also bring children under 2 years of age. Guests should be capable of walking 3 miles with intermittent rests. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. The park is incorporated into a 2-acre site of unused land within the confines of Empie Park. The park is completely fenced in with two play areas -- one for large dogs and another dog dogs under 20 pounds. There is also water, pet waste stations, and lots of shade. Abbey Nature Trail The 67-acre Abbey Nature Preserve has a 2.4-mile nature trail winding through woods and crossing over the mill pond. Once the original site of Poplar Grove's gristmill, the preserve is now part of the Coastal Land Trust and a wonderful escape from the city. Poplar Grove, dedicated to education, preservation and service to the community, maintains a busy schedule of activities throughout the year. Located in Historic downtown Wilmington on the corner of Market and Front St, this pet store is part of the former Finkelstein's space, with Finkelstein's Music Co right next door in their original Front St. space that they have occupied since 1906. Dogs are welcome inside to choose a new toy, chew, some treats, and more. They'll be introduced to some of the pups who work there and can peruse the interesting items on sale. Freeman Park Freeman Park on Carolina Beach welcomes dogs on a leash from April 1 to September 30. From October 1 to March 31, dogs are allowed off-leash as long as they are under voice command and their owner is near. Owners must carry a minimum of two suitable plastic or paper waste containers until it can be disposed of in an appropriate receptacle. The bags must be produced and shown upon request. See Details
