Moraine Hills State Park Dogs are welcome at Moraine Hills State Park. This pet-friendly recreation area is home to all sorts of different wildlife, including red fox, coyote, white-tailed deer, eastern cottontail, mink, opossum, raccoon, and lots of different birds. Located near the Fox River, McHenry Dam, and Lake Defiance; anglers swarm to the area in the hopes of hooking a fresh catch from the water. For those who prefer hiking to fishing, there are more than ten miles of trails, some surfaced with crushed limestone, that wind their way through the park. Alternatively, you can wander on the Fox River Trail, the Leatherleaf Bog Trail, and the 3.7-mile Lake Defiance Trail. The River Road trail is a paved pathway that is ideal for all levels of hikers. Additionally, you'll find ten different day use areas which are ideal for picnics as well, but remember, Fido must remain on a leash wherever they are in the park. See Details

Scorched Earth Brewing Company Well-trained and leashed dogs are welcome to join you for an Old World brewed beer at Scorched Earth Brewing Company! Fido is welcome in the beer garden only, must be cleaned up after, and cannot get on the tables. Scorched Earth is a bring your own food establishment, which encourages deliveries from local restaurants, and occasionally hosts food trucks. Volo Bog Dogs are welcome at Volo Bog, where only the Volo Bog Interpretive Boardwalk Trail is not pet-friendly. You are welcome to bring Fido with you on all of the other trails in the park. The main trail is Tamarack View Trail, a 2.75-mile trail that weaves through woods, wetlands, field, and prairie. You can also check out Deerpath Trail and Prairie View Trail, two miles that lead through old fields, woods, and prairie. Located among Illinois' largest collection of lakes, the park borders Grass, Marie, and Nippersink. Also joined up to the Fox River, this waterway connects the other seven lakes: Bluff, Fox, Pistakee, Channel, Petite, Catherine, and Redhead in the chain. There are four trail systems for you and Fido to use, including the Nature's Way hiking trail at just over two miles in length; The Pike Marsh North Picnic Area with a shorter, quarter-mile trail; and three other looped trails that vary in length.
