South Mountain Reservation
South Mountain Reservation in West Orange, NJ is dog-friendly. This nature reserve coverers 2,112 acres in portions of Maplewood, Millburn and West Orange. The woodland park features a variety of hardwood trees, and tall hemlocks towering above streams, creeks and ponds. The west branch of the Rahway River flows through the valley, and a 25-foot waterfall at Hemlock Falls is a dramatic feature. It is also a Revolutionary War historic site. Leashed dogs are welcome on trails and the South Mountain Dog Park is located within the Reservation.

This lovely spot was originally the eastern end of the Erie Railroad. Located in the Village of Piermont NY, the pier is open year round and is popular with dog walkers, joggers, birders and fisherman. The pier has a rich history. During WWII it was known as "Last Stop USA" because it served as the embarktation point for troops destined for the European theater. Today the pier offers spectacular views of the Hudson River. Especially handy for dog walkers are the scooper bags provided.

Two trials, very open area. Your dog will love it. Friendly people and friendly dogs when you see them. Shoreline Loop 1.5 miles which is intersected by Island Bridges making the loop about 1 mile. Your puppy may take issue with the bridges but with gentle encouragement and patience they can be crossed.

Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is pet-friendly. This is the final resting place of Washington Irving, the author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Leashed dogs are welcome in the cemetery, as long as they are cleaned up after. Unfortunately, dogs are not welcome on the tours of the cemetery. Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm and Saturday to Sunday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
