Ararat River Greenway Dogs are welcome to join their owners for a nice walk on Ararat River Greenway. The greenway begins at Riverside Park, runs beside the Ararat River, and continues to Tharrington Elementary School. It spans just over two miles in length and is mostly paved. Jomeokee and Sassafras Trails Jomeokee and Sassafras Trail is a moderately easy, 1.5 mile hike in Pilot Mountain State Park that will take about 80 minutes to complete with Fido. These two trails both offer great vantage points of the 200-foot lone rock mountain. The Jomeokee circles the entire base of it, while the Sassafras lets you get a look from a distance. Nelson Acres Located behind the Armfield Recreation Center ball fields, Nelson Acres features a pet-friendly walking trail that spans just over three miles in total length. Buffalo Mountain Natural Area Preserve Buffalo Mountain Natural Area Preserve is dog-friendly, as long as Fido is wearing a leash. The summit of Buffalo Mountain offers 360 degree views of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, and also hosts many rare plants and animals. The hike to the top is only around a mile, so most levels of hiker should be able to enjoy the views with their pups. To the north you can see Sharp Top and Flat Top at the Peaks of Otter, and to the south you can see Pilot Mountain in North Carolina. See Details
Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery tasting room is pet-friendly. Housed in a remodeled stables from the 1920s adjacent to a 2 mile trail over to Carter Falls. you and your pooch are invited to walk on the trail, then head to the tasting room and hang out on the pavilion surrounded by gorgeous hills.
