Holston River Weir Dam Holston River Weir Dam, also known as South Holston Tailwater Trails, is a pet-friendly recreation area that's home to multiple trail loops along the river that range from 0.2 to 1.8 miles. The relatively flat area has ample parking and welcomes leashed, well-behaved dogs to explore the trails alongside their owners, as long as they are cleaned up after to preserve the cleanliness of the water. Clarksville Greenway Take a trip on the pet-friendly Clarksville Greenway in Clarksville, TN. This former railroad track has been turned into a paved walking trail. It's wide enough for pedestrians, bikes, strollers and dogs. The pathway is shaded in the summer to make for a cooler walk. Restrooms and doggy water dishes are available at the trailhead. Great Smoky Mountains National Park The Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Gatlinburg, TN offers two trails that are dog friendly. Gatlinburg Trail (a 1.9 mile hike from the Sugarland Visitor Center to the outskirts of Gatlinburg, TN) and the Oconaluftee River Trail (a 1.5 mile hike from the Oconaluftee Visitor Center to the outskirts of Cherokee, NC). Please note that dogs are not permitted on any other trails within the park. Dogs are allowed in the campgrounds, picnic areas, and along roads, but must be kept on a leash at all times. Cummins Falls State Park An "idyllic, but rugged, 282-acre day-use park," Cummins Falls State Park in Cookeville, TN, is dog friendly! Located in the Cordell Hull Watershed, the area is a scenic spot and swimming hole, featuring Tennessee's eighth largest waterfall in volume of water. Patriot Park Take a stroll with your leashed pup along the river at Patriot Park, a dog-friendly park in Pigeon Forge, TN. The park adjoins with the local KOA campground, the trolley stop office and the Old Mill shopping area. The walking trail at Patriot Park is 1/2 a mile long.
